There has only been one movie, Diabolik aka Danger: Diabolik. The Saban animated adaptation, as mentioned above, had 40 episodes.

Diabolik debuted in fumetti, which are Italian comics (fumetti translates as "puffs of smoke," which is a reference to the word and thought balloons of comics). He was created by a pair of sisters, Angela and Luciana Guissani, in 1962. It appears in digest sized comics, which were supposedly inspired by commuters, as the sisters intended it to be reading material for commuters. It is heavily influenced by the French pulp literary super-criminals Fantomas and Arsene Lupin. Fantomas was an amoral killer, while Lupin was a gentleman thief, often targeting other thieves. Diabolik tended more to the Lupin model, attacking other criminals, though often violently. The series was the target of attacks by conservative elements in Italy for both the violence (which looks pretty tame compared to its many immitators and much more modern entertainment) and the amoral nature of the character, but has remained one of the most popular titles in the world of fumetti.

Diabolik was modelled visually after actor Robert Taylor, and had a pair of distinctive eyebrows. His mask was always depicted as form-fitting, with his nose and mouth showing through, which is why the mask in the movie was made of molded rubber, to better portray this element. He always drives a black Jaguar, while his assistant and lover, Eva Kant, drives a white one. The movie was fairly faithful, if lighter in tone, to the fumetti.

Diabolik would inspire other criminal fumetti, such as Killing and Kriminal, both of which tried to compete through violence, if not originality. Killing, especially, could be quite grisley.
