Danish special effects movie...

'the biggest special effects movie in Scandinavian history'
'more special effects than "Jurassic Park'

Just saw the trailer yesterday in the cinema... halfway through I began wondering if I had seen wrong and it wasn't a Zentropa production (Danish movie studio), and it was actually an american movie with danish syncronization... but it wasn't...

Looks a little like dark Harry Potter... The effects looked better than anything danish film has done before...

Could be very interesting...especially for danish film, to try a whole new genre, I hope it works :-)

I would say better special effects than anything Scandinavian film has ever done before..

It's great. Finally a danish studio realises that they already have the tools to make great VFX. Oh happy day! Can't wait for this movie. It's a pity they didn't discover it earlier.

Are there movies that aren't that good? Say it isn't so! You mean "Lotto" and the "Far til Fire"-remakes are bad?

But kidding aside, I actually thought "Kongekabale" was boring.. and this movie had a terrible actress in the lead, she had no passion whatsoever.

reply

Yeah, the girl leadactor is horrible ... she dosn't know what she is doing. Makes you wonder if THAT'S the best we can do here in Denmark? Are there noone who can actually "act", and not make it sound like the are READING from a script?!

But, the special effects are MINDNUMBINGLY fantastic!!! Bravo, GHOST-studio!!!

reply

I think the movie is great both in the casting, story, soundtrack and special effects(already seen it twice). It is a movie for kids of all ages and I just don't get, why you think Sara Langebæk Gaarmann is a bad actress.

reply

You don't get why she's a bad actress? Remember that scene where she crawled trough some sort of dungeon or hole, and some monster (can't remember which one excactly) tried to grab her, and when it grabs her leg, she has no facial expression and lets out a passionless "argh", which is very inconvicing (uoverbevisende), and in many other scenes she just has this blank look on her face instead of showing some kind of convincing emotion.. she almost has less passion and facial expressions than Steven Seagal..

But yes, the movie is otherwise great in casting, story, soundtrack and special effects.

reply

hehehe give the girl a chance u gotta start somewhere and i dont think it's her fault more like the casting crew took her on a too big project maybe she should just have some time to mature and learn the trade i bet not two of you would act much better than her

and just a thought Why is the forums filled with negative ppl all the time
fawk i would bet my **** that you who mouth offthe most is the smallest unsecure person outside in the real world just getting your jollies bitching and moaning about other ppl well see ya

reply

Well, after some time I've come to the realization that it's not the girl's fault, but definently the casting directors, who took a gamble on a project instead of spending more time securing the best possible actress for the job (or at least give her more training before the gig)..

And I'm only negative because everybody else is so damn positive! Everybody needs a Yang to their Ying, right? ;)

Not trying to go all "jantelov" on this movie, but seriously.. if it was American it would be no big deal.. just because it's Danish, everybody is praising it to high heavens all the time.. it's just an average flick! Get real, folks..

reply

HEHE okay then maybe i came out to harsh any ways :)

reply

What have you been drinking, what about "bænken" or "Blinkende Lygter" or you just like the "sædvanlige" hollywood movies... Try something new for a change..

*beep* you i`m famous!!

reply

sædvanlige = Ordinary

reply

[deleted]

sædvanlige = usual and not ordinary... ordinary is a negatively loaded word and the best danish word for it would be "middelmådig"

reply

"Ordinær" would be perfectly fine, as it is practically the same word with the same origins.

Do you honestly believe that a movie such as, say, "Batman & Robin" is better than Bænken, Arven or (since you for some reason like American movies better) Edward Scissorhands and Big Fish (I like Tim Burton, and I'm too tired to think of anything else right now)?
Effects do not make a movie. Concept, storytelling and acting do.

Oh, and you believe that the budgets of the Danish movies are too small?
In response to that remark, I'll say that I personally think that a movie's worth should not be decided by its budget. The talent of the artists involved in the movie, however much they'll cost, that is the only real thing you can judge the movie from.

Out of curiousity though, which American and British movies do you like?

The "Island of the lost souls" has a budget of 39,000,000 DKR. ($6,870,672.8).

"Alien" 45410400 DKR ($8,000,000).

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl" had a budget of 709,537,500 DKR ($125,000,000).

The first two movies are, after my opinion, great movies with excellent effects, story, cast and crew. "Alien" can't compete with any movie today, but "Island of the lost souls, makes a great job and can compete internationally, even with a smaller budget.

"Pirates of the Caribbean" also has great story, great cast and crew and great effects. The only thing that makes the difference is that the movie is a Disney produktion. It was promoted all over the world in almost every magazine. All the Public Relations costs a lot of money. And yes, there were a lot of travelling.

As we see movies can be good eventhough they have a low budget. But they can also be very bad, even if the have a high budget.

"The Grudge 2" 113,526,000 DKR ($20,000,000) is horrible! The first one wasn't scary at all, and this one is the same story wrapped in new clothes. The budget is relatively high, but were did the money go?

reply

Alien is from 1979 so you can't really compare that.

reply

"Ghost", the special effects-team whom is behind this movie, is the same that made Harry Potter 5.
BTW I love this movie, I'm just seeing it for the second time.
And the kid who plays Sylvester, is brilliant.

reply

I just saw this here in sweden.Dubbed in swedish. I thought it was horrible. Don't know if my opinion would be different if I saw it with the original language intact.

reply

just so you know.. the company that made the effects for De Fortabte Sjæles Ø (Ghost Aps) also made the effects for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (or at least some of it).. and you are right.. i am from denmark, and even though the story of the movie might not be that great, i am still very very happy that denmark finally have made a movie with great effects!! :D
