Kudos to De Heer!!!

Congratulations to everyone involved in Ten Canoes re: AFIs. Kudos to Rolf, make something using an original concept, make it well, and people will watch it..... in cinemas. Largely privately funded, independant film making, produced the best film by a long way this year.

Indeed! I can't wait to see this film, but I don't know when it will come out in Canada. I'm hoping its AFI wins will give it more exposure and allow it to be released in more places :)

Wish you luck in catching it in cinemas, it looks great. It won Un Certain Regard at Cannes as well so it might attract a decent distributor in Canada. Did he enter it in Toronto this year?

the best film this year?
hmmm, were you even watching movies in 2006? or were you just watching irreversible and twenty nine palms for 12 months solid...

reply

Best Aussie film of 2006. It ranked in my top 5 worldwide.

reply

alritey if u say so.
but u should really watch every movie from 06 before saying it was the best one.

reply

Every film from 2006? There would be a few thousand at least. I may well die of sunlight depravation.

reply

yeah, i meant every aussie film of 06. personally ive seen only one. so i cant say whether its the best or not.

reply

Watched about ten from 06. Didn't think it was a great year for the local industry. Last Train to Freo was good and Kenny of course. Jindabyne was over-rated, Irresistable was appalling and Kokkinos missed it big-time with Book of Revelations. Throw in a couple of the mandatory heroin junkie films-yawn. Wrights' Macbeth was disappointing, so was Surburban Mayhem. I thought the first time writer/director team of Kokoda did a good job. Haven't seen Millers' Happy Feet. It was worrying by how far De Heers' Ten Canoes stood out in production and originality.

This sounds like a suck up thread posted by a local Adelaide actor looking for a job in de heer's next feature. Could Habibi be the local buttlicking actor of a similar name?

Nice work Einstein.
