Who was the kidnapper??

Okay - spoiler alert:

Who kidnapped Nowalingu? And why? There were loads of women around - how could somebody just come up and get her without being seen in the vicinity? And why did they just take one woman and leave? Why not take a few more if you're going to the trouble of kidnapping. The narrator said somebody (couldn't understand the name or word)had kidnapped her but I didn't recall hearing the word before.
