Bravo!

Ten canons is now on top of my list of favourite movies. :)

i must admit i have 'wiered' tastes :) I love documentary films, and I also love traveling and understanding exotic cultures. I lived and travelled around Australia for a few years in my life, aboriginal culture in Australia has been going on for 60,000 years, they have so much respect for Australia's very dry land (what they dependedd on), and they have their own rules(laws as in the film) about how their society should function and how to keep things in order, it really fascinates me. But going into aboriginal land you would need a permit, so it remained a mystery for me.

This film is fantastic! Traditional clean cut story telling, using colour switches to tell parallel stories, almost like reading an old time book. the screen shots are beautiful and it reminds me so much about Arnhem land australia. but most importantly, it featured the aboriginies to tell their own story, in an authentic way. ---- Australia being a colonised country, just how many years did it take for something like this to pop up? an Aussie made film honouring the original people on this land. it is a documentary mixed with featured story. neat!

It is not anything new to mix documentary with featured story. For example when i visited easten greenland i saw a piece of black and white silence film made by one of the early white film makers/explorer , he used the Inuit to tell a funny white man's love story. it was a strange combination and interesting to watch because of its awkwardness! but i really appreciate the film maker of 10 canons using the real aboriginies to carry their own value across. Nothing big and fancy, but heartwarming and simple and true. Just like life itself. That worths 10 stars for me.

I found the death scene particularly beautiful. Of dancing your life to death and waiting your mate to sing the death songs for you to take your spirit away. I also love the close up shots of people and their nature inhabiants. The old way of life that is partially lost and about to disappear.

10 canons, a film truely unique. and it serves the purpose well for me because I have so much love for Australia's land and culture. It brings my heart closer to what i love.
