Free Dictionary Lesson for Disney

Sequel [siːkwəl]
1. Anything that FOLLOWS something else
2. A novel, play, MOVIE, etc. that CONTINUES a PREVIOUSly related story

It's always annoyed me that no one at Disney can pick up a dictionary. A sequel is the continuation of a previous story. It is not just picking a random moment from the original story and giving the untold story. They've done this soooo many times and its just frustrating!

Bambi II - not a sequel
Beauty and the Beast the enchanted christmas - not a sequel
Fox and the hound 2 - not a sequel

I'm sure there are others, but I just can't think of them at the moment. I mean seriously, call it a "midquel" or "The Fox and the Hound: Untold stories" or something.

I guess this is just a pet peeve of mine. Am I over-reacting or are there others who agree that Disney needs a dictionary?

You're right, there are much more accurate terms for them than "sequel," which really does not apply just because a film is based upon an original one...however, I don't really recall Disney having advertised them falsely or harped on the word "sequel," so it doesn't bother me all that much.
