Copyright queery

The title and setting ofthis film is the same as a film I had been making since 2002, how exactly does that work?

reply

It might not affect your film as you can't really copyright a title as it's a word or a sequence of words. For example there are already other films called Wilderness.

reply

Try telling that to the makers of Candy Crush, "King".

They've managed to copyright the word Candy so it can't be used in the title of any other companies games.

reply

Well, the title is not a trademark deal, so anyone can make a film and call it Wilderness. Other films, like Jurassic Park, have the title trademarked so other people can't use it.

As for the setting, coincidence. Now if your film has the same premise, names, etc as this film, then maybe there'd be something there.

When you finish your film, don't forget to nail down the copyright, otherwise it'll end up in Public Domain.
