Dick Dewy/Fancy Day ... Fancy Dewy???

I love this movie, but all I could think of was "these poor people. What AWFUL names!"

Dick Dewy?
Fancy Day - who when she marries becomes Fancy Dewy?
Aw, heck no. These names had to be horrid even back in Thomas Hardy's day. Maybe not Fancy by itself, or Dick by itself. But the first and last names put together? Surely Hardy could have come up with a better name combination than that!
