Any man enjoyed this movie ?

For me was a boring movie, predictable and unrealistic ..

And i believe that only a woman, specially a teenager will really enjoy this, but for a man is not worth it .. Nothing interesting happen, and you will know the finish after 5 minutes of watching it.

So fellows, i recommend this only if you are with your girlfriend, otherwise go to see something more complex and interesting than a predictable story of love.

All I have to say is, you are lucky I am not a feminist or I would tear you limb from limb. I hope that isn't the way you speak in everyday life, or you will get shut down by a lot of people.

Amen. And it's not as though 'male' movies don't have their predictable streaks too... action flicks are often cliched from beginning to end.

And for what it's worth, Snap21, Thomas Hardy was enjoyed by both genders for a long time... he's fallen out of vogue now, perhaps, but that doesn't negate the enduring quality of his works. If the movie seems predictable, you might consider that it's authors like Hardy who helped to create and/or popularize the plots that have become so standard today.

I am a man who enjoyed it. After all, what man wouldn't envy James Murray, when Keeley Hawes says to him, "Marry me." As my father-in-law would say to him, "If you can't say 'Yes' fast enough, nod your head.

Boring - your tastes clearly differ from mine.
Predictable - Boy gets girl - after some hindrances. It has been told thousands of times, and it's still fresh.
Unrealistic - Not for 19th century lovers.

I have watched it several times, and still enjoy it.

edit: July 2014...Bought it and watch it often. It never gets old. Good character portrayal and good filming...good all around story.

So agree with you.
I loved the short book, and I loved this movie. And Dick is such a sweet character, you can only root for him.

Your argument makes no sense. You don't like this movie because it's a romance so it's predictable?? Every movie would be predictable and not worth watching if we just put them in general categories like action, drama or romance instead of evaluating them individually. That's not what makes movies good..it's the characters and if you believe what is happening to them and their interactions with each other. You seem like you would be a terrible person to watch movies with.

Just borrowed it from the local library. I enjoyed it very much! Especially because of the reason to watch Keeley Dawes for over an hour. ;-) I liked the other bits, too.

I'm 57 yrs old and have just read Far from the Madding Crowd (a book I never finished reading during my teens), so I can understand the kind of material this movie is based on. (The boy-gets-girl arc is even more tortuous in that story).

Men could learn a lot from this movie. Take a que from Dick Dewey who was able to woo a woman above his station with sheer confidence and passion. Also, considering the average man is obsessed with sex it seems that the water basin scene alone would make this movie worth watching since it's pretty much hotter than any sex scene in recent memory.
