Terry Evanshen

I thought this movie was really well made. It was hard to watch some scenes they were so powerful. This isn't really a complaint, more of an observation. They said the name "Terry Evanshen" like 500 times throughout the movie. Every other word seemed to be his name. I get that the movie was about him and that he's a famous football player (even though I wouldn't know, not knowing a thing about football), but was it really necessary to say his name so many times? It was actually a little distracting. Other than that, this was a good movie. I'd like to know how accurate it is to real events, as I always wonder after watching a Based on a True Story movie.

The basic facts of his life are true but the actions of the family, especially the wife are probably way over the top and over acted because they are putting at least months and likely years of recovery into a couple of hours for the movie. I had a very similar injury, but my coma lasted for well over week less than Terry's and I recovered most of my memory with the exception of a half year or so that is blank. My family was exceptionally patient and understanding during the period when I had to be retrained from learning how to walk and use silverware all over again. The process is long and drawn out and has to be skipped for the movie...spending weeks using a walker to learn how to stand and walk doesn't make good t.v., nor does many of the other basic tasks so they were skipped completely for the more dramatic temper tantrums of frustration when learning and memory comes slow. But without that reason in the movie for it the loss of temper seems like a childish tantrum rather than frustration. The wifes tantrums and lack of patience on the other hand were added because of lack of time and dramatic effect of the show, I'm sure his loved ones showed more constraint when he was at his worst since they are still with him now and he still can't remember much of anything. It's amazing that Terry has made the recovery he has with practically not being able to remember a thing from before the accident, I don't know if I'd have been able to cope.
