Tim Burton has something to do with this.

There has to be someone that has worked on Nightmare Before Christmas or Corpse Bride or even that early short Vincent that is working on Igor. The character design is remarkably similar. Or maybe they're just ripping off Tim Burton. That could be very possible. Anyone else see what I'm talking about?

I certainly agree with you and the visual stylings of the films similarities. Perhaps it is just that in today's film making society, everyone who makes a film that is a dark 'goth' comedy, feels like it has to be in a burton-esque style for it to work.

I just went through both movies' cast and crew lists and there literally isn't a single person from Nightmare Before Christmas working on this movie. I haven't checked Corpse Bride, but I assume it's the same.

Actually, Henry Selick was responsable for the art direction of 'Nightmare Before Christmas' (Burton wrote the script), and the visual style of 'Corpse Bride' was heavily inspired by the german art film 'the Cabinet of Doctor Caligari', made in the 1920's, so it's rather unfair to say they're ripping off Burton. They're following an ancient recipe.

Not the animation, but the concept sure, eventhough I wouldn't say that it has a direct connection, but still, there is something Tim Burton about it.

I agree at least in concept it does feel like something tim burton would do( although he has nothing to actually do with it)

The guys name is Greg "Craola" Simkins. He does lots of really cool ridiculous art. I just got a tattoo sleeve done inspired by his work. I took a bunch of characters from his art and made my own piece.

If you like the animation you'll love his art

or his website which has all of his illustrations, drawings, and his first love graffiti.

I completely agree. That is the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the previews: Tim Burton. Some of the characters do look VERY similar.

You know... Tim Burton didn't invent this art style, he's just the most notable current practitioner of it... The style owes heavily to the horror films of the 20s and 30s.

I did think of Tim Burton a bit, but the first thing that came to mind when I saw the previews was Terry Pratchett's Igor(s). Of course, a Terry Pratchett Igor would probably never aspire to being a real scientist, not feeling it his/her place.

Igor is the name of Dr. Finklestein's 'pet' assistance

I thought that was the connection
