Turkey does not border Russia

It can't be that difficult just to look at the bloody world map before making utterly stupid mistakes as: "Russian border - Turkey".

"What If" is a game for scholars.

The scenes in The Avengers set in Stuttgart, Germany, were actually filmed in Cleveland, Ohio.

In Iron Man, the scenes set in Afghanistan were filmed in Alabama Hills, Lone Pine, California.

In Die Another Day, the scenes set in North Korea were filmed in Maui, Hawaii.

The Last Samurai was not shot in Japan, but in New Zealand.

In Amadeus Prague was used as a stand-in for Vienna and in The Bourne Identity Prague stood in for both Paris and Geneva.

Filming somewhere else to represent a certain location or country is very common in film making.

And nowhere in Hitman does anyone say that they crossed a border from Russia directly into Turkey. There were a few scenes of them on the road. They start out in Russia, even though the scenes were filmed in Bulgaria, and arrive in Turkey at some point. Since this is not a road movie but an action flick there was no need to show the whole trip.

I don't try to look smart. I know I am.

I have never been to Bulgaria and I'm not interested in famous landmarks. Therefore I have never heard of the places you mentioned.
I'm a British citizen living in Germany with my Italian wife. You might say I am pan-European and I have friends that come from all over Europe, and I'm quite certain most of them wouldn't be able to name even one of those landmarks you go on about.

Just because you know them doesn't mean everybody else has to know them, too.

Apart from that, the vast majority of target audience - which is almost exclusively not from Bulgaria - would not have noticed, because they don't know the places. So, there is not much chance of that making the film makers look stupid, although there are plenty of other things wrong with this film that do.

It's just a film. Get over yourself.

My favorite was "Hoffa", with Jack Nicholson and Danny Devito — where the Detroit airport had mountains with snowcaps in the background, and palm trees too.

The problem here is clearly not that the film was not shot in Russia. It's the subtitle "Russian border - Turkey" which is a place that doesn't exist. Unless Hitman takes place in alternative history were Turkey borders Russia.

By god you are right chap! Now that you mention it...I saw someone wearing a Cargo Clothing Concept flannel shirt in act 1 scene 3....which I know DAMN well you can't find in Turkey. And the socks that one dude wore?...oh my god I can't believe the wardrobe department actually tried to put THAT one by me. Who do they think they are messing with? We've got freaking GOOGLE these days- there's just no excuse for this kind of horse manure in film making.

Oh yeah...the computer program Diana? ....what in the entire freak is that? IM-fing-possible. Who do they think they are...trying to pawn this cheap fake crap on us?

Perhaps the movie was set in the future, where Russia has annexed Georgia. Problem solved.

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in central Sofia in Bulgaria was heavily featured. That made me laugh, as it's one of the biggest landmarks of Sofia and architecturally it is quite different to any such cathedrals in Russia.

Watched this movie on AMC. Knew instantly it was Sofia having been there several times. Saw lots of familiar landmarks.

But that's film making. If you are local to a place or familiar with it you know right away it really isn't the place portrayed in the film. It's very funny to see a movie set in "Chicago" or "New York" only to see a glimpse of the CN Tower in the background because the movie was shot in Toronto.

Yes, but at least they could make an effort to actually replace Bulgarian writing with a few Russian words :-P
I know someone will now say that it "doesn't matter" because "most people won't understand". That kind of argument only serves to further prove what sort of cheap crap such movies are. By the same measure, you could replace Chinese characters with Japanese or Korean ones, because, surely, it all looks the same! Dear, oh dear...

No one, in the movie, said that it did.
