'After Sex' versus 'Young People F---ing

Has anybody seen both films? "Young People F---ing" (or "Y.P.F.", as it is also known) is like the Canadian version of "After Sex"- the only real difference being that in "Y.P.F.", the story lines start before the sex, during, and after, instead of only after the sex, and that each story line is revisited throughout the film (also meaning, of course, that there are less story lines altogether).

So who has seen both? What did you think? Which one was better for you?

reply

Ive seen both and I think I like YPF better because you have more time to care about the characters rather than in After Sex where it jumps from one story to another. It had some stories that I didn't even care for.

I've seen both and I've got to say I`m on the fence. Although, After Sex almost won me over with the scene between Mila Kunis and Zoe Saldana. Can you say wow? YPF has better character development. After Sex felt too short. But I did like that there was more diversity in After Sex. YPF was a little too straight. Soooo. Yeah. Can`t decide.

reply

YPF is way better.

reply

although, it would have been nice to see some diversity in YPF, it was still the better film. it had more character development which allowed me to care more about the characters. whereas aftersex seemed rushed and a little heavy handed at times.

reply

I think that After Sex was better because the charcters were more real and interesting. Where as YPF was more about the sex...

"Someone has to die in order that the rest of us should value life more. It's contrast."

reply

I think the question should be which is “less worse”?

reply

Everyone does notice there is more character development in YPF, but that is obvious because revisit the set few characters in YPF.

Whereas in "After Sex" we are given vignettes and move onto the next couple.

One thing I do notice is how in "After Sex", the discussion is more about the external rather than about the character's themselves.

The couples are used as springboards for deeper discussions addressing the particular topic that film makers want to discuss.

For example, between Neil and Even, it is less about them than discussion about non-standard gay stereotype.

Or between the senior citizen couple, Trudy and Bill, their talk was a comparison between their days and current situation.

Even the talk between the college lesbians; they answered more what others wanted to know than think instead of what was personal between them specifically.

Along the same lines is the Croatian film "7seX7" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1981568).

The vignette like "After Sex" but includes the before, during, and after like YPF.

One of my favorites is the brilliantly artfully done camera shots where we only see the bodies of the people but never the faces. The only faces we see are the photos of the couple plastered everywhere.

I must say, the film director seems to love tracking shots. In several occasions, he has sustain tracking shots following character's actions or movements without real reason.

The sex was more spontaneous and free.

There is also, "A Good Day to Be Black & Sexy" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482517).
