PLASTIC in the microwave?

ok so she was talking about stuff she learned in prison, but plastic in the microwave is a HUGE no-no now, isn't it?

plastic contains chemical toxins (i think they're called dioxin), that are released into your food when microwaved (this also applies to the freezer apparently).....johns hopkins did the study....

ok so johns hopkins is wrong.....uh-huh....

sorry but i'm not gonna trust someone from the FDA - if they admitted there was a problem, wouldn't that make them look really BAD, not to mention culpable? how many times have we heard of BIG BUSINESS overlooking health hazards for the sake of a buck? please! the FDA approved thalidomide, and we know what happened there....

60 MINUTES did an expose [years ago] about a massive cover-up in the dental industry (re: metal fillings should be banned), and it was reported that the industry was aware of the problem but wouldn't admit it [for obvious liability reasons].....

oh and tobacco and alcohol are good for u......sheesh

My environmental science professor told us that microwaving plastic isn't a good idea, so I don't do it anymore. He said that plastic was never intended to be put into a microwave. Go ahead and store your food in it or put it in the freezer, but the microwave isn't smart.

Tomorrow's just your future yesterday!

For those of you who did not hit the snopes link, I read it sometime last year & what the general consensus is is that SOME forms of plastic transfer a few molecules into your food, but it is not fumes nor is it toxic. This is what they've discovered w/ the current studies. It is totally possible that someday they can find that this plastic IS harmful so to be on the safe side, it is better not to use it in the microwave. My rule of thumb is if there is any pitting in the plastic after I've used it in the micro (which means there was some molecule transfer), I never again use it again for that purpose.

I love how when people ask questions and when they get responses, refuse to believe provided sources and become sarcastic! Why even ask the question in the first place?

forgotten...and don't you forget it
