I just started watching this show because about a year ago I saw and fell in love with NOIR and consider it to be one of the greatest anime titles ever.

So after reading about it and all I'm watching their Bee Train follow up.

I'm not gonna stop watching it and I do like that it seems to be rebelling what I first though it would be- Imagine my surprise when the second episode had no gun battle! A complete 180 from Noir and it's battle an episode style.

It's wonderfully animated and all, characters are ok but not great, but in fairness NOIR never elevated itself to greatness until Chloe showed up.

But i have to ask-

WHAT THE HELL WAS UP WITH THE RED DRESS??

Will this be answered in later episodes? I mean one of the things I so respected from NOIR was how it never really demeaned itself to simple Fanservice. Mirelle and Kirika could be badass, intelligent, and not demeaned as just being sexy.

So I'm just kinda surprised by how in episode one Madlax was objectivtied sexually a lot.
The red dress was just a little.....retarded.

Plus in a completley immature juvenile way-

Those titties HAVE to get in the way!!!!!

Well i agree that thees series are inferior to noir and much more messed up to a point i had feeling even script writer couldnt explain why alll happens way it does.
Anyway on questions
Significance of red shoes is explained in later episodes. Altough it isnt explained in episode 2 Margaret has memory loss and that why she is bit mad and remembers small bits of past like red shoes, Book and name of Madlax

Well I'm watching the series off Netflix and it has gotten much better. Exponentially so.

It doesn't have as rich characters and as high a WOW KICKASS factor as Noir but the storyline is now fantastic now that the characters (even the small ones) are entwining and all.

But like the dress from the first episode (which so far has not been explained) some huge Fanservice factors are bothering me

I'll just list my two biggest ones at the moment.

1. Vanessa Rene has been running, jumping, sprinting, fighting, and living off the dirt in Gaztha-Sonika and all while wearing a short buisness skirt and high heels. It's pretty but it's getting a bit retarded watching this girl run in the overgrown woods in high heels and never suffer.

2. Elenore.....ok.......I get it. She's a maid. But isn't wearing that pristine maid outfit in the jungle a bit well, ridiculous? Certainly does NOT work as camoflauge.

Other than these ridiculous issues its a great series though.

I'm curious to see what Mashimo's closing series in his "Guns and Girls" trilogy will be. Hopefully someting that can combine the constant action and character richness of Noir with the complexity and detailed story of Madlax

I never cared for Noir that much. Madlax for me had everything that was better. Madlax herself made this anime *beep* This, Betterman, and Robotech are the bests animes ever.
