my favorite scene, Elizabeth and Cecil

My favorite scene in the series was when Elizabeth and Cecil have a quiet discussion in his office. It is wonderfully underplayed. She seems to know that he is corresponding with James VI, the King of Scotland. He does so to help prepare James to succeed her. He knows that such communications are treasonous.
Elizabeth says nothing about her feelings. But you know from her words, although quietly spoken, what she is thinking about Cecil and that she is really warning him to stop. We know by the look on Cecil's face that he fears that she has found out. Everything in the scene's dialogue is suggested, not spoken outright. That adds to the tension.

That scene was good, I agree, but not my favourite. One of my favourites was when Leicester was sitting with the Council, and was speaking about Anjou, (meanwhile Elizabeth came walking in behind his chair) and then he said, "She's far older than him anyway, and I don't think she-" and Elizabeth leans over and yells in his ear, "I'm minded to box your ears, Leicester!", and then goes on acting very witty, and leaves with only Cecil laughing. I find it very funny.

"My care is like my shadow in the sun, follows me flying, flies when I pursue it..."

LOL!

There are far too many scenes that are great to mention only one (for me).

My favorite scene is Mirren's "Shadows...upon shadows...upon shadows," speech. I think she won the Emmy from that scene alone. So powerful.
