The 5 Worst Nicholas Cage Films of All Time

1. The Wicker Man - He runs around foaming at the mouth and punching elderly women in the face.

2. Ghost Rider - Cage squints into the camera for two hours... then his head turns into a flaming skull.

3. National Treasure 2 - If you hated the first one, you'll probably commit suicide watching this.

4. Next - Ironically, if he could see the future in real life he'd never have agreed to make this film in the first place.

5. National Treasure - Nicholas Cage in a race against time to unravel the clues and discover why his acting career failed.

I found Next quite entertaining, and NT1 & NT2BOS aren't all that bad. At least the last two are watchable when you have young children over, all the while being quite exciting and adventurous.

But I didn't get The Wicker Man. It's just not that fun watching a decent guy being figuratively raped by a whole secluded island village. In real life all those people should get shot.

And Ghost Rider... well no argue there. Back in the day the trailer made a great promise... but in fact Nic isn't believable as a teenage daredevil biker trying to kill the demon-mouseketeer-idiotic-filmmaker-from-american-beauty-gay-boy-who-thinks-he's-all-that. For that matter the demon idiot was a mistake also. But the movie as a whole sucked balls.

That said, I don't think Nic deserves all the bad credit. He's better at making choices concerning roles than say: Wesley Snipes, Stephen Dorff or Val Kilmer. Not bad actors, mind you, but bad choice makers!

So on behalve of Nic, go screw the other actors, worth screwing.

To the original poster, did you see his "The Bad Lieutenant" film? I guess not else I feel it would be at the top of your list. It was only the second film I ever walked of, and I see on average three a month in the theatre and have been doing so for over a quarter century. Quite horrible.

Deadfall (1993) is by FAR his worst movie of all time! Wickerman is close to its badness though.

I thought The Bad Lieutenant was not too bad; it was at least a quirky revisioning of the original 1992 film starring Harvey Keitel. It had moments of brilliance such as when he shoots those drug dealers but he's so high that he can still see one of their soul's dancing...I almost wet my pants in laughter!!!

The dead know only one thing: it is better to be alive.

Nonsense. Nicholas Cage has never made a bad movie. He is one of the greatest actors that ever lived. Witness his tour-de-force performance in "Face Off". If "Heaven's Gate" would've starred Cage, it would have been a box office smash.

I did think "The Wicker Man" was an odd role for him, and he played it in a particularly unusual fashion. But that really doesn't matter, because the whole film's point is to blatantly make a politically incorrect statement without actually having to state it. And if you can't figure out what it was, then you didn't watch the film, or at least watch it very closely.

If I may, I'd like to remove your #5 and replace it with:

Knowing (2009)

I've been going to movies for a long time and quite often lately, and this is the only film I have ever forgotten existed after viewing. I really could not remember seeing it last year or if it was just a dream (Albeit a bad one) when my brother brought it over on DVD later on. It had promise from the previews, but then just fell apart on me. I barely even remember the premise while writing this haha.

I remember seeing book of secrets a good few years back and it was memorable. I saw the first one very recently, not aware if this was the one I had seen already, and on realizing I hadn't seen this one yet, I didnt think it was as good as the second one.

Id love to see the second one again. I like the london scenes

I agree about Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Just terrible especially considering it was an excellent book.

The problem with Cage is that he really is a character actor, not the best leading man and terrible as a romantic leading man (surprised no one has mentioned his romantic comedies here).

He has a lot of character and quirks but he rarely has chemistry with his leading ladies aside from a couple of movies he made when he was younger. He reminds me of Christopher Walken in this fashion, unique and a great actor, but you just can't stick him into any film, it has to be the right fit.

What about the Sorcerers Apprentice?

I just remembered I saw that film when you mentioned it. I forgot all about that film.

I actually loved the first one, but I did hate the second. My only thoughts watching the second one: Thsis is stupid

Ya the guy has had few duds but when that thought enters your head go watch "The Rock" followed by ConAir.

Worst he's made is Ghost Rider, Ghost Rider 2 and Drive Angry by far. Season of the Witch is also in there.

I thought he was on a come-back with Bad Lieutenant: New Orleans. It really showed his quirky style, like he was originally known for twenty years back. I love Red Rock West, that's a good one. Wasn't there going to be a spin-off of Con-Air with Cusack?
