Extremely over-rated IMO.
Highly boring and not satisfying (and I like 70s style suspense movies usually). I could see how some people could like it, but it's just not even close to as good as some say, and it has a pretentious irritating tone.

I think it's because horror movies are so bad these days, people tend to over-exaggerate the quality of poor films like this.

Agreed! I would go as far as to say it was absolute garbage.
The only thing this film had going for it was good acting (from the couple). Just a shame that they wasted their time acting in this sh!te.

i didn't notice any pretentiousness and thought it was quite good, it only has a 6.6 on here and I think it was better than that so it would appear it is underrated

Not boring, but a big let-down if you were expecting something like Haute Tension, Martyrs, A L'Interieur, Frontieres, Calvaire, or Dans Ma Peau.

Dangus does bring something up interesting. I've seen a few of the films mentioned, not all but with all the french new wave horror's out I do wonder if people expected something a lot more violent.

I actually liked the simplicity of it, reminded me of the original Halloween which is very simple, no blood yet a classic, still scary and a film that also made the slasher genre what it is today.

I also think the fact that it's a foreign film has something to do with it. You always get those dudes convincing themselves that shítty foreign films are good just so they can seem more cultured and intelligent for liking more foreign films. This along with High Tension were complete garbage. Frontier(s) was okay and even though Inside was dumb and trashy it was slightly entertaining.

I happen to disagree - I'm not fond of foreign movies myself but really enjoyed "Ils"
It's all a matter of taste and opinions - it still surprises me that people don't realize this

You are absolutely right. I was bored out of my mind, thinking this was a real slow-burn buildup with some kind of great payoff. Wow, it was kids. There was no motivation. There was no character development. There was no reason to care about anybody in the film. There was no backstory on the region on the children, or even the main characters. One teaches, one plays pinball on the computer.

I don't like reading too much when a movie is recommended to prevent spoiling it, but damn, this felt like the biggest waste of time.

I'm thinking this is a HUGE matter of opinion here (well, I mean it IS a movie, but I know no one can accept opinions on these boards...)

But first off, I really don't think it can be called "highly overrated." I hadn't even heard of this movie until today, and it was in a forum post titled "Absolutely one of the scariest movies you've probably never seen." It's not a super well-known movie, and only has a decent rating on IMDb.

The movie is boring. Those scary persons couldn't do such terror. The mystic line is a flop.
