Dear ScreamingBlueBanshee,
May I call you Screaming?
I did do some research. Some references to specific research documents below.
#1 GUIDELINE TITLE
Recommendations for nonheartbeating organ donation: a position paper by the Ethics Committee, American College of Critical Care Medicine, Society of Critical Care Medicine.
#2 Department of Ophthalmology_Centre for Eye Research Australia
Aside from those suffering from severe infections, haematological malignancies or a few highly communicable diseases such as HIV and hepatitis, most causes of death do not render people unsuitable as donors. (at one stage the mentioned organ was going to be "harvesting the corneas".
#3 Liver transplants from non-heart beating donors can increase organ supply

The British Transplant Society has also recently published guidelines on all aspects of non-heart beating donation, including ethical and legal issues.
So Screaming, I would be very interested to get some reference from you. Perhaps I misunderstood the research above.......it seems brain dead donors are preferred over non heart beating donors but perhaps for reasons relating to when actual death is proved.
BUT research is a dangerous tool. If you allow your writing to become slave to the facts you can end up with a factually precise but VERY BORING piece of work. This is theatre theatre not hospital theatre.
I still believe I found enough evidence to justify organs being taken from a non heart beating donor.
