I actually liked it!

I only got to see the first story cos that freaked me out enough and I'm about to go to bed - I don't want nightmares! But even thought the story itself was really trite and most of it predictable if you've seen any supernatural/horror films at all, I thought the filming, music etc was really well done. I jumped about ten times and my housemate and I both SCREAMED when the woman appeared in the car behind Melissa George's character (was she ever named?!). We both knew it was coming, but we still screamed!

So this proves that trite and predictable still works (for me, at least) if done well!

reply

Dammit I only saw the second story and that freaked me out.
The twist was totally hard to expect and it sends chills down your spine.

Is it alright if you explain what exactly happened in the first story?
And what was the twist that came up? ( I doubt there would be repeats )

reply

It probably doesn’t sound very creepy on paper, but I’ll try.

A young couple have lived in their gorgeous sea-front house for six months. You know right away it’s going to be haunted because they say they can’t believe it was so cheap and no one had bought it yet, which is code for ‘there was a grisly death in the house and all the locals knew the story so none of them would buy it’. Anyway, Melissa George (whose character wasn’t named so she’s keeping her real one!) is a writer and her husband is in advertising. It’s a v happy-happy relationship. Melissa goes for a swim in the morning, comes back to her shoes and finds a sock missing. Later the shoe goes missing. Her husband goes off to work. She spends the day writing, on the phone, doing laundry etc. Little things keep happening to freak her out, like phone calls with no one on the end, the feeling she’s not alone, and she keeps thinking she sees something in the sea through the window. She goes to investigate a few times, but it’s always gone. So she keeps thinking she’s imagining things, writing too much. At one point you see a woman standing behind her (who Melissa never sees), which was creepy and made me jump. She takes a bath and the words (I think) ‘Lost something?’ are written in the steam behind her. She sees a body clearly in the surf, but nothing’s there when she goes to check. She’s freaking out by now. Then she goes to get the laundry and discovers that all the right (I think) socks are missing. She goes into her huge walk-in shoe closet and all the right shoes are missing there too. She runs out and the words ‘Lost something?’ are written on the floor. So she runs down to the garage, completely losing it by now, gets in the car, and sees the woman through the rear-view mirror in the backseat. She gets out and cowers against the garage door, which won’t come up. You see the woman for a split second in the driver’s seat, then the car speeds forward and pins Melissa to the wall.

Later at the hospital, the doctor tells Melissa’s husband that she’s lost her leg, but she’ll be okay. She convinces him to go home and get some sleep. Cut to the nurse/secretary saying how creepy it was that this woman lost her leg a year to the day after a woman living in the same house lost the same leg. The doctor says that it’s just coincidence, besides Melissa lost her leg in a car accident and the other woman lost hers in a shark attack. Cut to the husband arriving home. Cut back to the doctor saying the nurse/secretary is forgetting something – the original woman also lost her head. Cut to something rushing up to the house from the beach, and the husband’s death scream.

So it was pretty well done. Once it all clicked: the body in the surf, and the shoes going missing being a premonition of her not needing them – gak! I screamed. My housemate screamed. We went round and checked all our security, and left the hall light on when we went to bed!

I thought it was really, really good.
Great writing, and its nice to have so many famous Aussie actors working on the one show.

There is a darkness deep in you, A frightening magic I cling to - Snow Patrol

reply

Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I saw all the famous Aussie actors' names. I guess considering they're only filming 20 minutes or so of footage each it's not really much of a commitment to undertake. Especially nice to see Melissa George working on an Aussie production again.

reply

I was quite impressed by the debut of this second series, especially the second episode. It was great to see Gary McDonald again. I hope it stands up well over its run as I've heard bad things about the treatment of the writers of this second series which started a few years ago, so it may be cursed.

Keep up the good work!

reply

I really liked it too, It was well done. I agree it was great to see Melissa George & Gary McDonald acting in this. I was freaked out so anyone who says they didn't like it mustn't be scaredy cats like me, hehe

Listen to your friend Billy Zane....he's a cool dude.

reply

Like most other people on imdb.com and others I have spoken about Two Twisted today, I really enjoyed it. And yes, it was good to see both Melissa George and Gary McDonald on our small screens again. At first I thought that the twist may have been that the couple in the first episode knew Gary McDonald's character, it wasnt until i racked my brain about it that I realised that Gary McDonald's characters wife, who he shot, was the author of the book that Melissa George's character had on her desk. While the 2nd episode was clearly better than the 1st, I hope to see more quality Aussie drama like this in the next couple of months on Two Twisted.

reply

Damn, just about everyone on these boards is saying the second story was better and that was the one I missed! Would anyone care to return the favour of a detailed recap?

reply

the 2nd one really stuck with me i liked it.
i cant wait to watch the other stories i just brought WHO weekly mag and it has a two page story about the show.

In the 2nd one when he smiled at the end...geez id love to watch it again.

where was the security guards working?

It would have been better with US actors!

reply

Speaking as an Aussie, you'd better be joking about that!! :)

reply

No I am not.
I'll be honest, that show was ridiculous... please tell me this extremely low budget show will not be broadcast everyweek. Dosen't the "outer limits" ring a bell?
Why do the aussie networks keep broadcasting these low budget aussie made shows, with so much US shows around?

reply

I have trouble telling US shows apart from each other. The less American homogenised formulaic mind numbing crap the better.

Oh, and by the way, local content laws are the only reason we don't get wall to wall American made TV.

reply

How about this, move all the aussie made shows after midnight, and the US made shows during primetime.
Everyone wins!

reply

[deleted]

They are all so bad!!
That is the reason why these shows have to be moved to after midnight.

reply

Both nights so far seemed to have one good episode and one crap. The Tom Long one and the Garry McDonald ones were great, the other two were crap.

reply

Sorry, if only US shows were on TV I would throw my TV off the highest balcony available. US shows are NOT the only quality ("quality") shows on TV - more often than not they suck and are just used to fill in gaps - hello, The New Adventures of Old Christine! They're painful to watch - sorry, I don't need a show that has to use canned laughter to indicate jokes.

reply

Modern day comedy is rubbish, but aussie made comedies are something so putrid I just cannot describe, maybe this could be the next tale on two twisted.
I thought "dark realm" was bad, but two twisted took the prize.
Why is it so difficult to move all the aussie made shows after midnight?

reply

[deleted]

What I am saying is move all the aussie made shows such as all saints, home and away, definetely neighbours, aussie comedies, dramas, the lot after midnight
Is that so hard?

reply

The simple fact is, this is Australia. How many more CSI's, Law and Order's and second rate American sitcoms do we need? The American's don't bother to put anything else on their television besides there own programmes, why do we have to surrender? Thankfully this is just a minority talking hence why we have such a great show such as Two Twisted, thank god for BB!!(Bryan Brown)

reply

George, here's a tip for you... Move to America if you lack the appreciation for Australian television. I'd rather watch Aussie stuff the majority of the time, instead of having American crap forced into my head 24/7.

All Saints, great medical drama... Home and Away, Neighbours, used to be good... Aussie comedies, I can't get enough of them because they suit our sense of humour. Fast Forward, Full Frontal, Comedy Inc, SkitHOUSE, Big Bite... It's our comedy right there that proud Australians love with a passion. Our drama is freakin' awesome (look at Love My Way, need I say more right there), and I don't know how you can bag it out like you do. This show does have a bit of work to do to get my full approval, but I do like what I've seen with the show so far (the twist on the second episode with Garry McDonald and Steve Bisley was my fave so far).

Aussie shows are here to stay and if you don't like it, then you can get Foxtel or something. That way, you can watch all of your American rubbish all you like, and quit your complaining on here.

reply

The thing is US made shows are the benchmark in film and television.
I am not saying axe aussie made shows, I am just saying move the shows to after midnight and the US shows in primetime.
It is a win/win situation.

reply

George, George, George, yankee shows are definately NOT the benchmark. They just have a lot more money to throw around. Yank shows are getting worse by the week. CSI, NYPD, OC,JAG, Blahblahblah. Its all been done to death. The yanks have nothing origional, NOTHING. End of story.

reply

I totally agree. But if any country is setting a 'benchmark' its the UK!
Blackpool
The Office (The US version SUCKS!)
Extras
Spooks
Wire in the Blood
Jonathan Creek
Doctor Who

There are only a few US shows that I have been truly impressed with.
The West Wing
Arrested Development (and hey, US audiences hated it so much it only got 3 seasons)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Rome
Medium
Band of Brothers

Don't give me no rules. All I got are rules - Walk The Line

Once again it is simply a minority talking! And its irrellevant people! Aussie TV is here to stay so love it, like me, or hate it like the few, its not going anywhere thank god! So all the post-midnight propositions, or all the praise for Yankee shows isn't going to do anything.
We have good laws ensuring that as Australians, we have Australian show. Regardless of what the loud mouthed minority think, we have a good industry and need more oppurtunity to expand our creativity.

reply

[deleted]

Yea mate so do I, I worked on Two Twisted and frankly i think it's a great example of what we are capable of when given time and money, watch the whol series than criticise but for the most part it dominates any predictable contrived American show on that night. And you are right we need more funding and more time to be able to produce great shows, besides I think Two Twisted and Blackjack have been great this year, Home and Away and Neighbours, we their just that, so we need more chance to knock up shows like TT and Blackjack. ANyway moving them beyond midnight will give NO HOPE, who the feck is gonna stay up and watch that and therefore how the hell will Australia ever retain our industry?

Hi Raul,

I'd love to know the failings you see in the stamp story. I wrote it and so I'd be great to hear your thoughts on what would have made it better.

And I think you should really stay tuned for next weeks episode. Sure, I've got a vested interest in it too -- I wrote the first one 'Soft Boiled Luck'. But I think you'll find both actually pretty damn good. I've just seen the second show 'Arkam's' -- and it's brilliant. Honestly. Wait till you see it.

Yeah, true... I'm biased, but I honestly believe they're good. I'm really proud of 'Soft Boiled Luck'. And I love 'Von S.'s Stamp'. I think it's wonderful. But we all have our opinions and reactions and I'm certainly not having a go at yours.

You wrote it? That's cool!
In that case, I would like to congratulate you. I liked that episode! It's my second favourite one, after 'Finding Frank' in the first week. You must have been stoked when you found out that Sam Neill and Roy Billing were going to be in your film- or did you write their parts especially for them?

Just a question:
Did von Stauffenberg really try to assassinate Hitler with a poisoned stamp? Does the stamp actually exist today, or did you just make that part up?

I'll look forward to next week's episode. It's a great series, and I'm enjoying it a lot!

reply

That is the whole point, The commercial networks don't have to put US made shows in primetime, but any other comedy or drama program than aussie ones will do.
Why did channel ten replace a high quality cop drama ( law and order CM) on Sunday night?
Who gives a stuff about some bogans solving a case.

I think the 'Wife' character was a tough one to play for, especially when she first makes her drunken entrance. The shoot was only four days, so it was really tight. I wasn't there. But these things are human activities. And sometimes we're not in the groove as much as other times. But I really think she was brillaint at the end with the stamp -- totally loved all that. She had the hardest role of the three I thought. And I'm not sure I (we) gave Wendy Hughes the easiest of time, especially at the start.

But I'm really thrilled with the very positive things you're all saying about it. Thank you all. And to those not saying very positive stuff could you post your addresses and I have something in the post for you shortly.

In regards to Von Stauffenberg trying to kill Hitler with a stamp -- no, I made all that up.

The stamp itself is a very common one and you can buy them for about five bucks.

If you like this kind of history, which I do, you might like to read Eric Durschmied's books 'The Hinge Factor' 'Whisper of the Blade' and, well there are plenty of others. I've got them all I think; really great stuff. All about how unexpected things can hinge a battle or a situation and change the course of events. I got a lot milage from those books for this story.

I keep thinking how remarkable it is that these stories even get to the screen. It's true some are better then others. Where mine sit in that scale is entirely up to you all to decide. And that's part of the show too They are a mixed bag of stories and each has a specific audience at heart. Some are spooky, some are whimsical, some are gothic, and some scifi. But across the board different people will react to different stories in different way. But you all know that. And regardless, the proof is in the eating of the pudding, and we have only our own taste to guide us on that proof. From the show's perspective it's hard to cater to all those tastes. So, personally, I think the ones that work best are the ones that keep their ingrediants specific for their core audience and hope those outside that group will enjoy tasting something they might not try much.

The show's like a box of chocolates like that. We're not all going to love everything but they're bite size and wont ruin our appatite if we want to try something else.

The one after mine coming up this Monday called 'Arkham's Curios and Wonders' is a really good example of this. It's very gothic, and the people who love that kind of thing (me) will love it but I think people outside that group will also really enjoy it, because they can taste 'goulish gothic tale' -- like a horror comic. But it's brilliant, which helps. Hopefully you'll enjoy 'Soft Boiled Luck' on your way to it Hope so.

Oh, and about VSS -- it's a story with a moral, of course: careful what you lick!

reply

This was just a terrible series, the original series (Twisted Tales) was so much better.
