What kind of an idiot...

Okay. Did anyone else find it completely absurd that Sara would leave behind her father's will and the "How to Change Your Identity" pamphlet? I mean, come on. She's leaving her husband, whos he fears might kill her, so she fakes her daeth, and she leaves behind key clues to what really happened,a nd that she's really alive. Whoever wrote this script obviously didn't have a brain. But, that's just my opinion.

LOL! I hear ya! I thought the same thing...it was like something out of a Bugs Bunny Cartoon where Elmer Fudd thinks Bugs is dead and then finds a pamphlet in Bugs' hutch tited "How to Fake Your Own Death".

Why would she leave behind all that material anyway? Her plan is to never return to her home after the caving trip, so wouldn't she want all that material w/ her or stored somewhere far from the home (like a bank deposit box in another town) where she could access it after she makes her escape? Wouldn't she need all those bank documents pertaining to the funds she received from her dad's estate?

Complete nonsense. The only other explanation would be that she wanted the jerk husband to find her.

The first time I saw this I completely understood why it was behind the picture. I didn't question it or think she was an idiot at all, all I was thinking was "Oh no......" when I saw the package taped to the back of the picture and when it showed what was in it I just thought, "Oh crap!" that he'd found it... lol

These are the reasons I initially felt it made sense:

1. She had to find a spot she could hide stuff for YEARS. Remember when the P.I. said that she'd gotten a little over $200,000.00 from her fathers estate when he'd died? Where would she hide all that information? The bank info, the checks, etc. I am sure that was her hiding place from the very beginning - who looks at the backside of a picture??

2. Once she chose to change her identity and fake her own death, she had to get all of her "new life" details together while STILL LIVING with her controlling, domineering, psychotic, abusive husband who seems to watch and check over her every move -- where else is she gonna put her new I.D's?

There are few hiding places for that kind of stuff. It had to include all of her dads estate information AND all her new ID data, PLUS anything that has to do with where she's gonna move, what she plans to do when she gets there, who knows what else.

3. Between the period of time when she had all her plans setup on how to fake her own death and start a new life, fooling her husband day in/day out, still putting up with his abuses, I doubt she had much on her mind but pulling it off and going over every tiny detail in her head to make sure she did, all the while probably constantly scared that if she doesn't pull it off, she'll REALLY be dead. Killed by her husband!

4. I see no reason why/how she could have taken the package with her, where would she have put it? Her husband could have gone through all their bags at any time they were on their trip to the caves, she obviously couldn't be certain that nothing would go wrong at some point - he could accost her physically, so she couldn't hide all that information on herself, in a pack or in her clothing, he'd feel/notice something that big.

She set up her bank account under her new I.D., withdrawing all the funds from her dads estate money ahead of time and forwarded it a bank account in West Virginia for a "Julie Nichols". She took only the few pieces of her new ID (as Julie Nichols) she needed with her. Birth certificate, social security card, probably that's all.

Fakes her death, husband leaves the scene to get help, she crawls out of her hiding place and gets away, starts her new life.

The SECOND time I saw this movie, however, I changed my mind a little about how much sense there was in leaving the package there - aside from the plotline's need for the abusive hubsband to find it so he can go after her. lol

While I understand she needed a hiding place and couldn't take the package from behind the picture with her on her trip with her husband ....I am sure she could have found a few minutes to burn it somewhere!

But then! I came up with a few reasons as to why she may not have gotten rid of it.

One was because she assumed it'd never be found. (We have pictures in our house we haven't moved for the past 12 years).

Second was because she forgot to. Maybe she was too consumed with her plans to have thought of that. Sure you can call her dumb and say "I'D never forget about it!" but we've all done absolutely senseless things before.

Third, it's possible she figured that at any point during her plan to fake her own death she may realize it might not work and she would have to back out til a later date. In that case, she may have needed something in that package of information to change her plans for another time, another place.

That's my thoughts!

Whatever the real reason, even if there is none, I like this movie. It gets a little over-the-top here and there, but overall, I like the story idea, I'd watch it again, and again! And I like it more than Sleeping With The Enemy because I feel excited and glad for the woman in THIS story whereis I didn't feel sorry for the woman in Sleeping With The Enemy cause she was such a darn wussy in my opinion.

They're both such similar stories, though, so I like them both. But I just liked the female character in Stranger In My Bed more than the female character in Sleeping With The Enemy.

Why wouldn't she rent a safe deposit box then at some bank her husband wouldn't think of and she could stash the documents, etc. in there, which she could pick up after she disappears from the cave on her way to her new life?

Have this good (albeit bad writing in some scenes, but still a good movie) I like it. I lol at this part too, you guys.

Perhaps that's all it is; the writers HAD to make her mess up so there was more story.

But then, there are women in real life who leave "senseless" trails behind after running away from abusive husbands and end up being tracked down and beaten or killed by their husband.

Good grief, just put the stuff in a ziploc and bury it somewhere. Then there would be no plot I guess. The husband going to her girlfriends house in her new city........the gal just lets him in because he wants to buy a house in the neighborhood?????? how stupid is THAT? All the phone hang ups. This gal is clueless. How did she get out of the cave so fast? Why didn't they really look for her?

Okay... I have to agree. TOTALLY agree. WTH WAS THAT ABOUT!?!? How STUPID! No woman would do that!! ..... would she??? That was nuts!

Don't mean to beat a dead dog but come on. No one in there right mind would leave that kind of dead give away stuff just lying around. What kind of excape over looks the things need to pull it off.

The woman didn't look stupid and yet there is the proof staring us in the face that she is!

But I do have to say Jamie gave a great and believable performance except for that slip up by the writers. I missed her since her role on Savannah. Payon was a hoot.

I thought she did a good job in the movie!

Oh, nothing against the actress. She was pretty good. I couldn't finish watching it, though.

reply

I could barely finish it myself, but I did and I wouldn't watch it again. Its just too much.

If I came home and saw a broken window, I would have the police there. I would NEVER walk into the house and have a shower.
