Why did Ryan kill the detective?

He's gonna kill his wife, so killing the only other person who knows he found her is one hell of a lot smarter than the idiot wife. In real life, no woman would have been so stupid as to leave such a blatant trail. Did she really believe he would NEVER take her pictures down?

I would have put the money in a numbered account, transferred it out and in several banks and accounts. I would have moved several times, probably out of the country. I would have destroyed the will, the pamphlets and any paper trail. There are other ways of accidentally being found...far more interesting and makes your heroine look less like a blasted idiot.
