Depardieu is supposed to be wonderful in this one, even doing his own singing. I wonder when Americans will get a chance to see it?

It's one of the films featured this week in the Rendez-Vous with French Cinema series in New York. I just saw it this evening. I like the movie, the performances really make the film. Depardieu is wonderful and Cecile de France gives a very strong performance too. I also like Christine Citti who plays Depardieu's ex-wife.

There was no indication that an American company picked up the film, but keep your fingers crossed, maybe one of the specialty distributors will acquire the rights. Several of last year's films in last years's program eventually picked up distributors such as "La Moustache" and "Avenue Montaigne" ("Fauteuils d'orchestre" in France).

I saw this film in Buenos Aires last week. I'd never heard of it and only went because I couldn't stomach the usual Hollywood summer crap, and French films there have subtitles to help me out where the local Spanish films don't. It was a decent film, but it's pretty hard to imagine a romance, even a very unconventional one, between a pretty young thing like Cecile de France and a beached whale like Gerard Depardieu (and, unfortunately, the wrong one of them gets naked). It was still probably better than "Spider Man X" or "Harry Potter and his First Ghostly Pensioner Cheque" or whatever else is playing right now. Anyway, I'm now thinking about packing on 100 pounds (45.45 kilos) and moving to France. .
