In other K movies and dramas I saw quite a few dudes wear girl sweaters too...

LOL. I think it's the fashion or something for them to dress more... flamboyantly.

yeah... throughout the series he is wearing girls sweaters (at least that is how they look, I know it's supposed to be the style). It is pretty funny to watch and think "who thought this looked good?"

I can't remember if it is Full house or another k-drama where the lead actor wears a lot of really effeminate scarves as well.

Yeah.I just watched another episode. He was wearing a girl sweater in that one too.I like that word... flamboyant...

I think we all realize that they are not actually "girls sweaters" but they are that style. The androgenous look for men is very popular in the korean media. This style should not be confused with the actual mens clothing in korea. Korean men (ouside of the k-drama and music world) dress just like the men in europe and north america.

Exactly, thanks to Lee Jun Ki the effeminite look is definitely. To be "pretty" is considered fashionable. With the nice long hair, wearing the nice fitting clothes and having a certain attitude is what makes you "in." I have fallen under that category as well, the "pretty" boy look lol.

And if you wanna see more Korean guys in really girly clothes, then I suggest you watch Goong/Princess Hours. Joo Ji Hoon wears low cut shirts all the time in that show along with scarves and bows. I wouldn't that far as to wear scarves and thingies...

Haha how ironic, I was just talking about that on the Gung board. It pains me to see him dressed like that.

There is girly clothing for straight men in North America and Europe as well as in Korea. I know that Dolce & Gabbana actually have a "puffy shirt" like the one on Seinfeld (if you've ever seen that episode). I've seen it in the stores but I have not seen a single guy wearing it. What designers put on shelves isn't always what the population is wearing.

I suppose everone will see what they want to see, but I don't think the cloths worn on k-dramas are representative of what the average population wears. I have a number of korean friends and relatives, and I live in korea town, but I have not seen a single guy wearing a low cut sweater like the ones in full house or goong.

I have also not seen a korean guy walking down the street and thought "wow... he's wearing too much make-up" but I have thought that when watching a few k-dramas.

Korea Town is not Korea but it is full of students comming straight from korea. The vast majority of people in korea town are comming straight from korea.

The clothing in a boutique doesn't necessarily represent what the majority of korean men are wearing. The same as a beuatique in North America doesn't necessarily represent what the majority of North Americans are wearing.

I have not seen a great deal of korean men dressed "girly". That is from my photo albums, my trips to korea, my korean friends homepages, and from what i've seen in the Korea towns in Toronto, Vancouver, and New York. I haven't been to the one in LA and that is supposed to be massive. Maybe that is where all the "girly" dressed korean men are. I don't know.

If people are seeing something different than I am, then maybe I'm just not hanging out in the same areas of town.

haha you'll find this in a lot of K-dramas..part of being fashionable? It is particularly distracting in Goong as well..

reply

Yeah I noticed that sweater too.

I think its mainly because the fashions for men are different in Korea than what we are used to.

A guy in North America dressing like that would be considered a metrosexual or effeminate but for some reason he pulls iff that look without looking gay-ish to me.

I am still seeing low vneck shirts in dramas and music in 2014. It is not the same as what Rain is wearing in Full House but it still fashionable in the kpop and kdramas. I sure like any fashion trend something new will replace it.
