How and why did billy die? i think there were cuts on him but how did he get them??

He was shot by the shotgun. It didn't kill him immediately, but he succumbed to the wound. It was a bullet hole, not cuts.
I couldn't think of a better signature.
yes he and Maggie are shot at but manage to hide. He looks at his chest and there is a large hole there, Maggie starts to freak out and cry and he puts his hand over her mouth to silence her, he knows he's already dead and that she will be killed too if the killer hears her grief.
