Why is this film so poorly rated???

The acting is tight, the script flawless, the plot innovative & the entire affair simultaneously amusing and disturbing, it achieves everything it sets out to do, and does so excellently. I acknowledge that this is just opinion, but tell me what is wrong with the acting, the plot, the script, the production quality, hell, anything really. Should be at least in the 80%'s. Same sort of score here as on Rotten Tomatoes & Metacritic, what did people not get with this film???

simultaneously amusing and disturbing
Agree completely, this is one of the aspects I liked the most. Now it's hilarious, now it's creepy.

🐺 Boycott movies that involve real animal violence (& their directors) 🐾

I think its pretty well rated.

Its that man again!!

The rating is a mistake. The movie was hysterical in large part. Edgy and original in others. Enjoyed it completely.

I know somoene who hates it, no idea either.

it has almost 7/10, meaning it was a good film, which it was. i like it a lot, but compare the rewatch factor, when compared e.g. to cabin in the wood, beyond the mask and slither. would it be fair in comparison to give severace really an 8 or more? i don't think so.

reply

Yeah it is your opinion i'm afraid.
The plot innovative? How so? Script flawless? Why?
It's a simple plot and a generic comedy/horror. It doesn't have anything unique and it is easily forgotten.
It is basically an Eli Roth film without the style or the music. Not that Roth's films are great by any means also.

Loved the humor, acting and funny scenes (bear crossing behind them, bear trap opening and closing on leg, leg being stuffed in cooler (after sock and shoe off), pie baked for an entire hour, etc.

However what knocked a couple points off for me was that they never full explained who was doing all this and why. Three stories were told at the dinner table (two obviously fake) but the one that Jill told that was supposed to be real wasn't fleshed out enough or confirmed that that was indeed the actual situation or motive. Killers were just generic goons. There was no, "Ohhh, I get it now!" factor.
