Bolo?

Why do they call Paul bolo, and what does it mean? I assume I missed a few other culture jokes as well (I've never even set foot in New Zealand unfortunately)
thanks!

reply

Its basically samoan for the male genitals, bolo means ball or balls

To quote Oscar Knightley out of Empire magazine: "Polo is the Samoan word for testicles, and the translated Samoan name for Paul is Bolo, so we thought it sounded like that, and that it's be a great chance just to say testicles as many times as possible without people knowing."

reply

The Samoan Translation for 'Paul' is actually "Paulo" pronounced Bau-loh.

He was just ad libbing, but tons of people in our society say those sots of things. In Pacific Island cultures, mothers are in charge of their sons, so its basically the same as saying 'onananana i'm telling on you.'
