Hypocrisy is. . . . . . . . . .
. . . . thinking it is ok to download StarWars #57 and criminal to download Sione's Wedding. If you believe piracy is stealing then how is it OK to steal something more valuable (most Hollywood blockbusters that kiwis download make far more at the box office in one night than this movie will make in it's lifetime) from a rich person, (eg bigtime Hollywood Studio), than it is to steal something less valuable from a poor person, (eg kiwi production houses)?
Surely the issue must be whether or not you believe that a bunch of corrupt legislators can declare something as ephemeral as a bunch of bits and bytes to be someone else's property just because a mob of even more bent and greedy publishers paid the politicians to make it so.
If you believe that downloading a movie such as Sione's Wedding is a 'bad thing', then the same must apply for any movie download.
There is a chance that the people who provided the artistic input into this movie may not make as much money now as they would have if the DVD hadn't been uploaded to the net; but responsibility for that circumstance need be sheeted home to the creators of this lame funding model, not to the downloaders.
You see it probably hasn't occurred to those who rationalise their downloading by imagining they are some sort of Robin Hood stealing from the rich to sell to the poor, that the whole intellectual property construct isn't designed to reward artists anyhow. It is designed to reward publishers.
The first thing that happens when a computer program, song, play or chromosome is declared to be intellectual property belonging to someone is that the person who created it loses control of that property to the manipulative greedhead publisher who intends owning others thoughts, evolution's progress or a society's credo.
Enough of the dialectic, you catch the drift. The essence is that if you're here in imdb chances are you're a movie downloader.
If that's the case any attempt to define 'good' downloading against 'bad' downloading tells the rest of us nothing bar the depth of your hypocrisy.
