Worst Movie I've Ever Seen

And thats a fact..

reply

Really? This was the worst movie you've ever seen...or do you say that every Friday, or at least once a month?

If this is the worst movie you've ever seen, I think you need to get out more!

reply

No it actually was the worst movie i've ever seen. I'd like to really know if it was a comedy, drama, or horror film, because it was actually none of the above. The gratuitous nudity was unneccessary and would only apppeal to 13 year old boys who have never seen a naked girl in person. Really I guess you must have enjoyed the brutal acting, storyline, as well the degradation of women in this movie. I actually feel ashamed for any of the women who actually agreed to be apart of this film, because I'm almost certain this set back any progress women's rights movements have made in the past 100 years. I think your the one who needs to get out more often if you could actually tolerate this crap. A film that really needs a 10 minute scene of girls swimming underwater naked speaks for itself. I'd like to know how this film even got made because it's shocking how bad it is. Was it even necessary for it to be in 3D, and I'd also like to know if they purposely made the graphics look like a child created them. I actually felt bad for the parents in the theatre who brought their children to see this movie because it wasn't so much of a film as it was a soft-core porn. Not to say that nudity can never add to a stories plot line, but this was just an excuse for pervs to jerkoff to girls naked, I guess for all the people who get sick of doing so in front of their computer desktop.

reply

It's just supposed to be a throwback to the sleazy 1970s B-movies that pushed the boundaries with sex and violence, which Piranha did in spades. It's not supposed to be the next Hurt Locker or Sophie's Choice.

Nudity - remember: B-movie, which brought in the audience with more unnecessary tits than Pam Anderson's multiple boob jobs. Now I'm not justifying all the nudity, but after studying exploitation films in cinema studies, I kind of have to note that the selling point of these is tits and red corn syrup. Besides, if you thought the nudity in this was gratuitous and offensive, you should see Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS, I Spit on Your Grave and Sweet Sugar.

And for the record, I'm 24 and loved the hell out of Piranha because of how audacious it is.

I have a message for Germany...

reply

Yes, exactly. This isn't the kind of movie you go into expecting something amazing. I mean the title is Piranha 3D with a 20-something cast and is shot on a lake during Spring break. Knowing that alone pretty much tells you what to expect.

reply

If the OP is concerned about women's rights, why do they watch B-Movies? The genre has never been known for progressive sexual politics.

The real reason is because B-movies are intellectual junk food, and angry pop-feminists find catharsis in pointing out the obvious. They don't feel confident enough in taking on high culture that might be misogynistic, so they focus on gore-filled horror films aimed at teenagers because their flimsy arguments stand a better chance against the 'dimwits' who like this kind of thing.

Actually this isnt much different, nudity wise, then these mainstream A movies i see like hostel or *beep* movies like that...i went to see that with my mom and for the first hour and a half i thought we were in some porno theatre sitting next to a bunch of raincoat types lol...horror movies are embarassing period these days

reply

Hostel was in no way an 'A' movie.

reply

The first hostel was definitely an "A" movie. Great acting, great effects, and good torture.

reply

Off the topic a bit but Hostel isn't "horror" to me. Horror has to be scary, not some shock, torture porn.

Hostel is terrifying in the horrible way the people were tortured but it's not horror in that the tension builds and builds and the viewer is truly scared. In most truly great horror movies it's what is not seen that is left to the viewer that makes it scary...

I enjoyed this film a LOT more than SuperBad!

i would love to meet the idiot parent who brings their child into a rated R movie. gotta love the film rating system, it tells parents a movie is not for their kids, well they show it to their kids anyways and then get mad with the movie. lets try something: COMMON SENSE

Rated R for sequences of strong bloody horror violence and gore, graphic nudity, sexual content, language and some drug use.

that alone tells you what your walking into. my friends and i loved it, it wasn't the best movie ever, but its exactly what it tells you, a movie about killer piranha's attacking people on spring break. that plus COMMON SENSE tells you what your going to get

spring break - drunks, topless girls, girls gone wild, excessive nudity

man eating piranhas - tons of over the top gore, blood, and violence

put the 2 together and there you have this movie. this is clearly a movie that won't have good acting, or great dialogue, because you don't expect that in monster movies. its common sense with any movie like this, the dialogue will be campy, the deaths over the top, twists, or solutions in the movie will be ridiculous

this movie knew it was going to have that, had fun with it, and gave a pretty good payout for what it was working with.

I went to R-rated films as a kid (with and without parents and other relatives) and I'd take kids to R-rated films myself. The thing is that no one got or would get upset in that situation. I was allowed to see films that I was interested in. From the time I was a very little kid, I loved horror.

I'm middle-aged and I don't have kids, but I'd do the same thing--let kids see films that they're interested in seeing. What I wouldn't do is drag them along to things they're NOT interested in seeing, whether it's R-rated or not.

Get over yourself...this movie is not meant to be high art. It's obvious from the get go that it was meant to be a B movie schlockfest and that's what it is...and it's fun. You can tell the actors enjoyed signing up for it. It's a throwback to exploitation films, similar to what Tarentino and Rodriguez did with Grindhouse. I frequently watch and own many academy award movies, but accept that some movies are just for fun. What I CANNOT stand, are movies that take themselves too seriously, yet are so cliched and predictable, and outlandish. Even worse are the repetitive romantic comedy movies that are heaped on the public. I have to ask, what did you expect from this movie? Did you do any research at ALL?

reply

similar to what Tarentino and Rodriguez did with Grindhouse

Credit where credit isn't due, we obviously watched two different movies called "Piranha", because the one I watched was pure drivel, and took sucking balls to a whole new level.

Naked girls in movies only appeal to 13 year-old boys? Really?

I think you are viewing this film a little too much from a_perfect_sonnet's private little bubble. Everything has a market, and not every woman out there has a huge problem with naked women in movies. A lot of them would probably have a bigger problem with someone else saying they can't get naked in a film if they so choose. There are plenty of fan service films for the ladies out there too. Nudity is something everyone in our society likes, it is part of our humanity. Let's also try and remember that this film is a reboot of a specific film from our blood & boobs horror era.

Honestly, if people like you would stop taking the human race so seriously and tried to laugh a little more at our little quirks, I think you would get a lot more joy out of life. A lot of men don't really appreciate being branded the only gender that enjoys the more titillating aspects of sex, and I'm sure a lot of women get tired of being an assumed bleeding-heart feminist, or being made to feel that their natural attraction to a naked body is somehow wrong.

Enough with this us verses them garbage, we are all part of the same race.

Perfect Sonnet, this film currently stands at 81% approval on rotten tomatoes. And I might add that 4/6 female critics gave approval. Looks like they can laugh a little. Get off your high pedestal, and stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Go crawl back in your hole perfect sonnett, nobody cares what an elitist prick like you has to say. I wont be thinking about this movie for days after, because it had a monumental effect on my outlook on life. It was just a good *beep* time!

I think it's absolutely hilarious that the nudity is what you've singled out for its gratuitous nature.

Unless this is all a veiled satirical comment on how society has a much more lax attitude towards violence than sex. But I doubt it - you're probably just a bit daft.

"I'd also like to know if they purposely made the graphics look like a child created them"

At least someone noticed this affront to filmmaking. Did they seriously WANT the fish to look like they're out of a Saturday morning cartoon? Not scary at all, no way no how. Painfully fake looking. The corpses, too. Painfully fake. And Dreyfuss's body should have been TONS more bloated after being submerged "for weeks."

The whole film was an excuse to show breasts. That's about all. I feel sorry for the men who sit at home in the dark with their lotion, kleenex and "Piranha" to keep them warm.

reply

People who bring there children to a R rated movie in this day get what they deserve. I am a parent and i would never take my kid to see something with an R rateing. My qestion to you is what did you exspect to see. It is a remake from a 1978 movie. Any movie that takes place during spring break you will see T and A. the 3D in this movie was better then a few i have seen this year. alice in wonderland for exapmple. As for the woman in the movie THEY READ THE SCRIPTS BEFORE THEY DO IT. No one is holding a gun to there head. I will admit that i could have done with out the underwater make out part but what ever. You want to jump on the whole women right movement then take it out on all the little bimbet's on spring break every year that run around actting like hookers. You see more T&A on the beach or the lakes evey year then in this movie. I thought it was a good movie it is not evey day you see great use of killer fish. Get over your self it was just a movie.

It isn't about the nudity, it's about the girl on girl stuff. God, learn to read. There was also far too much of that. Unless you are actually in a same-sex relationship, girl-on-girl just looks disgusting and slutty IMO. I'm a woman with this opinion but it would stand the same if I were a man.

reply

Actually, I think this may be the perfect exploitation flick--for all the reasons you state above. I didn't think the acting was horrible and it catered to exactly the crowd it was aimed at--teenaged boys and 40-somethings like myself who pine for the drive-in days of the 70's and early 80's.

The nudity was totally gratuitous and served no purpose and I enjoyed it immensely for just that reason. I laughed out loud at the girls swimming nude under the boat.

The violence was brutal--if a bit cheesy--but again, it served it's purpose for this specific film and was very funny--not to be taken seriously. I mean, really, who would run over 100 people with an outboard motor just to get to the beach when you are safe in a boat already?? And the scalping was so funny I about peed my pants. This wasn't meant to be a serious piece of filmmaking. Seven Samurai this is not. But it's darn fun anyhow (and I'm not dissing Kurasawa, so don't come after me over that).

I mean, c'mon! Anyone who makes it through the opening scene with Richard Dreyfuss singing "Show Me the Way to Go Home" and doesn't realize this movie is a huge wink to Corman and all the cheesy, exploitative flicks of the 70's missed the boat (pardon the totally intentional pun--also a wink to the film--see how that works??).

You go to this movie for one purpose only--to be entertained. It's not thought-provoking, it's not meaningful, but it is laugh-out-loud funny and Alexandre Aja absolutely meant it to be that way.

By the way, anyone who goes to see this film knowing who the director is (High Tension, remake of Hills Have Eyes) and then acts offended by what they have seen should be banned from IMDb. What did you expect from this film?!?!

One last comment: for all those who claim that this film exploits women, I bet if you track down the women that appeared in the film every single one of them will tell you THEY didn't feel exploited. No one held a gun to their heads and forced them to do anything. They were warned up front, signed a contract, took the money, and laughed all the way to the bank! YES, this is an exploitation film. Yes, sex, nudity and violence were all exploited. And NO, not a single actor or actess was exploited because they volunteered and were paid for their services.

In my opinion, the best, most fun flick of 2010 and the industry will be hard-pressed to come up with something better, although I have very high hopes for another exploitation flick getting ready to be released called Machete.

So let the flaming begin--I stand my ground!!

This, boys and girls, is what is wrong with nowadays society. People tend to think that it is completely OK to show their children brutal violence but are shocked about some nudity.

News flash: there should not be any children at the screening of R - rated horror movie ffs!!! If the parents would've had so much common sense to act as the movie rating and trailers clearly suggest, those kids would've also been saved from seeing the horrid nudity...

My wife and I went to watch it tonight, having the expectations of a Sci-fi Channel horror movie. I knew it was going to be cheesy fun, but boy was I wrong having hopes that high.
I enjoyed nothing in this movie. It feels like you're watching two different movies switching back and forth. One movie is a killer fish movie so terribly animated that at times it looks like a cartoon. The other movie is anything you'd see on Cinemax after midnight.
It's not funny, it's not enjoyable. Jerry O'Connell plays what may be the worst written character I've ever seen on screen.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a movie snob at all. I love a fun, mindless movie every now and then, but this was painful.
We both walked out of the theater and said "That's the worst movie I've seen in a very long time" and we go to the movies every week.

reply

If this is the worst movie you've ever seen, you are LUCKY. That means none of you have had the displeasure of seeing some straight-to-DVD titles that make this movie look like an Academy Award winner.

reply

Definitely not the worst movie I ever seen. I have to say I was expecting a little more, especially from the 3D, but enjoyed it better than some so called A movies. It's basically a B remake for a B movie with a cast that is a tad above the usual B movie variety.

reply

I should rephrase. It's the worst theatrical release I've seen. I can honestly say I'd rather watch "Return to House on Haunted Hill" than ever watch this again...

reply

My wife and I walked out laughing. It wasn't great but it was far from the worst movie I've ever seen. You mut have got too worked up about the nudity and it spoiled the rest or something. There were some very unique "horror deaths", bimbos getting bit and losing their favorite body parts, Jerry Connely's character was a total put down to the guy who owns "Girls Gone Wild", I think it was anyway (done to belittle that piece of trash). I think it went a little too long on the girl on girl and the drinking tequlia from the naval part but other than that it was the cheesy 80's Roger Corman type film I had hoped for. Give it another chance on DVD. There's more humor in there than many films and that keeps it well out of my least favorite box.

I agree 100% Whole Hardheartedly with this. People are stupid enough to think movies should be a reality or even close when watching them, should never watch movies in the first place. They are meant to be taken us away from reality of trials and problems. Not go and bring more to life problems.

Some people are so clueless to what the movie was meant for, so they tear it down so far that it is not even that bad. There are people that say Troll 2 is funny and "So bad, It is good." Troll 2 is one of the worst for me. I laughed at it because it was not really a comedy, it was just so stupid, it made me laugh, but P3D is just great fun, that people don't know what that kind of fun is.

There is just way too many serious people out there, and can't please everyone.

Rated R Horror movies are better, no matter the argument.

reply

If parents are taking kids to this, then those parents should be put in jail for it. This is not meant for them and to know what it was from a trailer is stupid as hell. It was obvious what this movie was from the trailer. WOW! I can't believe how stupid people want to be, when they really are not this stupid in the first place.

They rather be dumb as hell, than use their brains. Parents taking kids to see this are like what I saw on the news a while back about the parents leaving their baby at home alone while they go to the bar to party. They were thrown in jail for it. That should be about the same for taking them to the theater to see this. If I was a theater staff, I would of told them to leave.

I feel sorry for the kids having those parents.

Rated R Horror movies are better, no matter the argument.

Now do you have an actual opinion to offer to this debate as to why i'm going to presume why you find this film so "totally amazing", or do you just psycho-analyze peoples comments?

I did not go to see this movie, but I have received my money back from other movies. In this state, by law you can get your money back if less than 1/3 of the movie has passed. However, I have never had to invoke that to get my money back. (Granted, this does not come up often. Maybe 3 or 4 times in the past 15 years.)

You can get your money back on any film in most places that you buy tickets to see as long as you do it within the first half hour or so of the film. For this movie, they were making exceptions because so many people were wanting their money back after the 30 minute cut off. They were also handing out a free pass to any other movie to be used this year if you complained after the movie was over.

Man this is stupid. Can you get your money back after a concert if you didn't like the music? How about you do some research before coughing up $10 next time.

Actually most theaters are great about this, because they want you to come back and they figure they made their money off your concession stand purchases. They don't make jack off the actual ticket sale. I've gone and asked for refunds after a film, because of some quality issues for example. I've never been told no to request for a refund.
