Jimmy Saville, Bill Cosby, Jared Fogle, Hector the Teacher

This film is disturbing with the older teacher fondling all his pupils on a motorcycle. Seems twisted that they make Hector the sympathetic hero.

the pupils he fondle are eighteen, and all seem to be able to look after themselves. i mean, they all know what he is like and seem amused more than anything. Hector is flawed, but a good teacher who cares about his pupils.

I'm sure that's what all men who molest/harass their pupils, and/or other youngsters, say: 'he/she was able to look after him/herself'. 

they are all aware of what he is like, but nevertheless they still accept rides on his motorbike etc. there is no suggestion at all that they see themselves as victims or unable to look after themselves. they are fit young men of eighteen, and they seem more amused than anything else by his occasional mild groping. they do not appear in any way harassed. It is not about him 'telling' himself anything, it is how we see the boys themselves reacting to his behaviour, talking about it among themselves. The film is mainly from their point of view, not his.

That's a fairly astute analysis, even if I can't say I condone what Hector was doing (he was their teacher after and still in a position of authority) the boys did know what they were doing and were willing participants. What Hector did was wrong but there's those that have done much worse to those a lot less willing but what we need to ask ourselves would he have been more forceful had none of his pupils complied? I'd like to think not and it was a case of they were willing to do it so he was happy to indulge himself a little. Does it make right or appropriate? Of course not and he deserved to be getting early retirement because it was still unethical what he was doing. Was he a bad person overall? I'd have to say no. He was a person that did something stupid even if the boys were willing participants. Although they were on the brink of manhood they still were daft young boys to some extent who still had that little bit more growing up to do. Even if they were compliant and they could have a laugh and a bit of banter with him there was still a boundary both he and they shouldn't have crossed.
