Stop Bashing This Movie!

I finally had an opportunity to see this movie and I liked it very much. Yes, I am a Serb and I most certainly did not have any issues about the story. I’m sure that the majority of people who are bashing it and giving bad reviews have never even bothered to see it and then make an objective judgement. It’s a well-directed, very sincere and touching story of a woman and her daughter in post-war Sarajevo trying to make ends meet. The acting was superb, especially by Mirjana Karanovic. I cried like a baby during the last 15 minutes of the movie. :-( Very well done!

reply

ummmm telling someone to stop bashing the movie because you liked it is dumb.

if people did not like the movie, then they have the right to "bash it"

not every thing has to be a praise

reply

Any normal human being (be it Serbian or any other) has nothing to object concerning this film. Even the idiots should shut up. Well, except Emir Kusturica. He has every right to be jealous.

reply

anyone can object to anything.

if a person does not like the movie, then they have the right to "bash" it.

reply

"object" and "bash" have very different meanings. "object" is when u give arguments against film, "bash" is when you... well when u dont even have to watch the movie but u already dont like it (its usualy what people who watched 3 movies in their lives do).

reply

true, it is unfair to criticize a movie that you have not seen.

but, since i dont know anyone personally on these boards, i have no idea if they have or havent seen a movie. as far as that goes i can say ive seen every movie EVER and criticize them all, and you would never know if i have or havent seen them all.

reply

Well I obviously wouldn't believe you if you said you saw every movie ever, so I wouldn't care for anything you might say.

I'm a Serb too, I was born in Belgrade and have lived here my whole life. I like this movie very much. Why do you think it's impossible for a Serb to like it?? This movie is not even about war, it's not political, it's touching personal story.

reply

Why would a Serb think that an opinion is valid when a Serb says it and the opinion is untrue when a Muslim says it? You think that way too? Isn't that making you a racist?

reply

the movie is very political, its a message that serbs are all rapists etc.

just another move to demonize the serbs into the 9th stage of hell

It is so pathetic how some serbian fascists feel about this movie.
I ask myself if anyone on this forum would allow any Nazis or Antisemites to bash such movies as Schindler's List for example.
I invite everyone to see "Grbavica" and try to find out why is this movie banned in Serbia and serb occupied part of Bosnia. Just imagine if Hitler was able to negotiate a peace treaty with Americans, how would the people of Germany be able to learn about the warcrimes commited by Nazis and deal with their past in general, if they were doomed to still live under Nazi regime. Well the fact nowadays is that Germany is free country since 1945, and Serbia is still dominated by local fascists.
Serbian public is hence strongly influenced by serb fascist ideology, and that can be seen in some posts here.
"Grbavica" is actually not politically motivated movie at all, but still it is worth for fascist motivated Serbs to come to this thread and leave very negative comments. That's because the truth hurts.
So all you cyber-chetnik serb fascists, stop whingeing and whining about this movie.

If this Domagoj1973 is not a so called "agent prvocateur" under false flag, then my name is Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger. :)))

reply

or maybe Arnold Alois Scwarzenegger Vehabia could be your name.

@ gorm77
I must agree with most of what you said, unfortunately, fascist ideology is still very present in Serbia.
However, I just wanted to point out that this movie was in fact shown in Belgrade and was very well taken by the audience.
There are intelligent, normal, decent people in Serbia, there are a lot of them. They just arent as loud and therefore less noticeable than fascist idiots.
One yelling fascist is easier to notice than ten normal friendly people.

Video “Radical Islam drowing in Europe 1992-1995 Bosnia”
Posted by cd under Religion , Politics , Videos

Comments from the original video poster

EL MUDJAHIDIN contains original video footage of persons belonging to this squad and fighting on the side of the so called Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina. An army which Muslims (Another-words Bosnian politicians) introduce to the world as the ONLY army fighting for the unity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, for the good of all ethnic backgrounds residing there, and presenting their people (Bosnian Muslims) as the ONLY constitutional people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, judge for yourselves how true these claims are……..

You are also able to view a huge presence of Mudjahedins from Islamic countries belonging to Al’ Qaide who, as is well known, committed atrocious war crimes against Serbs and other non Islamic people in BiH. Keep in mind that those Mudjahedins were and STILL are protected by the Bosnian (Muslim) political leaders.

I think there is only one director from Ex-Yugoslavia who deserves my full respect: Mr. Emir Kusturica. And his comment on this movie is enough for me. So, think about it :)

Why didn´t Miss "I-AM-YOUNG-AND-SUCCESSFULL-MUSLIM-DIRECTOR" make the same movie about serbian women who were raped and killed in the war? OR EVEN BETTER! About all the women: serbian, croatian and muslim!!! Why not? That would be a realistic picture of things we´ve survived in the war. And it would be true. And now - it´s simply about politics and rasism.

Is it less realistic because it only talks about bosnian women and their trauma?
This film is about this particular woman and her daughter.

How could it be racism? Serbs and Bosniaks are not two different races.
They have cultural differences. That's not the same as race.
It doesn't even say that all Serbs are rapists.

First of all, from a strictly cinematic point of view this is a Great Movie:
it talks about such a difficult topic like war rapes in a very sensitive and delicate way, but not forgetting to be hard when it's needed, and delivering great acting and great filming. Miss Zbanic is definitely a talent.

I had the chance to see this movie in Sarajevo, at Film Festival 2006: well, it was moving, really moving.

Having travelled throughout all the Balkans from late 90's up to now, and having friends in Belgrade, Sarajevo, Zagreb, Skopje, Pristina and Lubjana and in many other places I am quite confident when I write that - no matter the ethnicity of the viewer - this movie may not be considered offensive by anyone.
(and talking to my friends just confirmed this thought).
You may like the movie or you may not like it, but you may not be offended by it.

As usual, when a movie talks a bout a war, everyone who has been involved is very sensitive, but - frankly speaking - I would not give any credit to any user who puts in his nickname the word "cetnik".

I am Italian, and I don't give any credit to anyone who define himself as a "fascist".

It's the same crap.
