ATV Crash

I saw this when it played in Olympia last weekend. Totally fun movie. The first half is really funny and then it gradually turns darker. The filmmakers were there and did a Q & A afterwards. So many people had their hands raised, that I only had a chance to get one of my questions out. So I have a question...is there someone on the inside who can tell me this: The crazy ATV crash that's in the movie - the filmmakers talked about it... said the stuntmen weren't hurt in it, but I was wondering if the ATV was totaled in the crash?

I worked on the film. We had 4 maybe 5 cameras set up for that shot because we thought we'd only get one shot at it. The stunt didn't go as planned and the director wanted to try it again. After the ATV was pulled from the water it was clear there would not be a second take. Hope that answers your question.

Thanks for the info! 4 or 5 cameras is a lot.

At the Q & A, the director said one of the stunts guys wanted to do it again, but the director said he would NOT allow them to do it again because it was too risky.

So I assume both stunt guys were okay then. Crazy.

Took me awhile to get around to looking up this movie. I still haven't managed to watch it yet either.

As for the quad being totaled, it was temporarily out of service. The plastics and headlight were somewhat mangled, and the carb had water in it. Not really totaled, but it needed some work. I was there videotaping with my own camera when they did the stunt.

One of the reasons the first take didn't work out quite right was because it rained right before the shot. The ramp they had to hit while making the turn towards the edge was wet and slippery, causing the quad to slide a little instead of shooting straight off the bridge. They guy on the back of the quad landed on his back on the edge of the bridge instead of falling off.

The second take was of him falling off into the river.

I'm curious to see for myself how the scene ended up turning out.
