is this safe to watch with your family?

any nudity or stuff that might make one uncomfortable while watching with adult family members?

reply

nope.. nothing of that sort. Just be sure your family appreciates arthouse films..

thanks :)

homosexual themes. Nothing explicit at all. However, some people were hoping that it's R21, to prevent immature viewers, who can't appreciate art from entering.

reply

i'm 16 and i managed to get in to watch it. and i truly love the movie. there's no age limit for movies.

reply

yap.. but sadly, maturity doesn't come with age. I'm glad u're 16 and you love the film. There is hope yet. I'm sure there are people who are in their twenties or thirties who are childish and will do things like make noise or poke fun at the characters..

reply

watched it today, brilliant movie, awful audience. they were laughing at the wrong parts and asking each other stupid questions audibly. typical typical singapore. *beep* cheena *beep* should go to school before going to the movies or stick with hongkong shows.

reply

you are right. its a lovely movie to watch, if u appreciate the kind of movies that get you thinking. very realistic, briliiant peice of work. but, its sad that not everyone can appreciate it. poking fun at the lead casts, laughing at inappropriate moments, jeering at homosexual scenes. these people should really be banned from watching movies. typically the singaporean youngster with no regard for others. tt wasna turn off, although the movie was great.

reply

i try my best not to stereotype.. but.. everytime i see a group of cheena kids in the cinema, i'm more than willing to bet my last dollar that their mobile is gonna go off during the film.. and more often than not, i'm right.. sad, but true.

reply

Well I got one of those stupid cliche, laser pointers being pointed at the audience, by someone lurking in the exit ways.

Some people have too much time on their hands, and not just cheenas.

And oh btw, if you have a lesbian daughter or gay son and you want to encourage them to turn straight, go buy the vcd or dvd when it comes out. You will not regret it. A truely FAMILY safe movie.

reply

yeah cause gay people can just magically turn straight after watching a movie. right. it's sad how ignorance plagues too many people out there.

reply

nope that's not the message the movie is trying to imply. coming from a 16 year old who's supposingly not allowed to watch the movie, i think the movie is just about love.. u can't control who u fall in love with. we should just follow our feelins.. there's no wrong in being gay or lesbian. and sometimes the love experienced in gay or lesbians relationships are much genuine than normal relationships. Agree?

reply

I agree with you totally, some people here seem to be completely missing the point. Its a film about love and its about communication; the sub stories all involve healthy "normal" people who just can't communicate their love for others. Yet when we enter the main story it is about Teresa Chan who is blind and deaf - yet she communicates perfectly and knows how to show her love.

As for the lesbian story line, the girls didn't end up together, but that happens all the time, it could have been a boy and a girl and exactly the same thing would have happened. There is no homophobic message in the film. Be With Me and Teresa Chan are an inspiration for us all, certainly the best film of 2005.

reply

Cheena? should go to school? LOL, Im sorry but i cant help but laugh out real loudly at your ignorance, which i pity.

Yeah, Im a cheena guy here ( don't even want to speak english in orchard!)

Nice stereotyping eh? I bet you are one of those losers who feel good about yourself, because you think you "know how to appreciate artsy films", but in fact is a friendless nerd spending time in front of the PC the whole day.

SO, THE BOTTOM LINE IS, go spend more time socialising with people, be they cheena or not, instead of wasting your time here typing worthless messages like these, and be the butt of peoples' jokes.

HAVE A NICE DAY,
CHEEEEEEENA MAN

reply

A lot of crudeness and naïveté floating around in this thread...

reply

Hey it's Dick Lee!

reply

Thanks for the input people, movie was AMAZING....

by the way, WTF is a cheena??

reply

Cheena: slang for chinaman

reply

Hey guys, perhaps we shud unite in name of the good movie and dump all these racism stuff. Personally, i got the worst ever disgust with a bunch of cheebyes sitting beside me giving me some lanchiao ignorant live commentary when i saw the film. But pls dun sterotype cheenas just becos they are much the majority of the population doesnt mean they r all liddat. Similarly if the majority are muds/meenas or tambees the more likely they may have done tat as well.

reply

yeah, its just kind of childish and dumb, isnt it? Much like black people calling themselves *beep* wth.

reply

I don't usually reply on IMDB, but since there are s'poreans here so I thought why not.

Anyway it's not really racist? Maybe more like elitist? (i guess it also depends on how u define cheena, can refer to chinese-speaking s'poreans or PRC?). Anyway, i agree there's nothing wrong with being cheena.. what we should do is to help them appreciate or understand the movie instead of throwing insults and feeling more cultured coz u think you behave/more educated/etc better than them. That's just kinda immature and well, naive too. no offence.

and lets try to cut down on the hokkien vulgarities here man. haha. even if u speak to your friends like that, must wayang here lah.

oh yah, i didn't really like the film. haha

Come on Suede-9, (I know this is two years late). We all get annoyed at kids making noise etc in the cinema but to wrongly classify a film for performance, in hope of keeping out undesirables is hardly the way to encourage an already dwindling interest in decent cinema among today's young.

reply

I don't see any reason why they should do that. Since one of the lesbians in the movies end up in a most negative situation.

In line with the homophobic and anti-gay sentiment in Singapore. Heck if they could, they would make it PG.
