Be With Me disqualified for Oscar nomination

Oscar organizers said a Singapore movie has been disqualified for next year's best foreign-language film award because the dialogue is mainly in English.

The film was entered in the foreign language category but "English isn't a foreign language" for the Oscars, Melidonian said.

The film includes three languages: Mandarin, English and the regional Chinese dialect Hokkien, according to the Hollywood paper Variety.

The academy measured the screen time for each language and concluded that English was used most frequently in the film.

that sucks for Khoo

Just saw it today at the Melbourne Film Festival - and can say the reason it was probably disqualified was because there was hardly any dialogue at all!!! About 5 minutes of which 2 minutes was English and the rest foreign!

But in my personal opinion, it was not worthy of a nomination at all cos it was just plain pretentious and BORING! Sorry guys this was a complete disappointment and i am regretting seeing it.

I don't remember English being in THAT much of the film. However it's been a few months since I've seen this film. In the first story, about the two girls, I think one of them may have spoken English AND Mandarin. But maybe that was done so as to target the Asian-American audience. I know several Asians (my boyfriend included) who can't speak their native tongue fluently - but can speak English very well. Maybe that was why this was the case in the film. I am only making a guess though.

And I agree ... this film was very poignant - and quiet. I loved how quiet this film was. I watched it at night, and it seemed so relaxing.

I have watched this film three times. It may not have been nominated for Oscar, but it made FilmMovement as a quality film. It was a very touching film about love stories.
