A totally French comedy!!
It is the best description.

It is about a french comics very popular which take place in france during the jules cesar time.
It is not about gladiator or any "action movie".

Hi

You could read about the other Asterix movies. That would give you a clue.

Asterix i one of the most popular comikbook caracters in Europe (along with Donald Duck).

Kim, Denmark

Agreed, and we Danes especially love them. :)

reply

Yeah it's basicaly comic book characters in europe coming to life....

They might not get much credit here but they are the rage in europe

reply

Well, the numbers speaks for themselves. Asterix and Cleopatre's groos in USA was $3,115,188, while in Europe - $110,989,615.
Anyway - here in Poland we also love them.

reply

It probably never helped the US Gross that it was never really released here, in theaters (even a short run) or DVD.

So does Finns too:).
I think that Asterix is very popular at the Scandinavia(Of course around Europe too).

"I don't see nightmares,I live them!"

reply

In Holland we also love Asterix!

To bad the last comics where crap and some of the names have been changed after 40 years, so that you have 30 comics with the original names and two with totally different dimwitted names... :S

reply

Yeah, I live in Holland. The name changing is totally superfluous. Why the hell did they do that? Every dutch fan growed up with the original names, and then, suddenly, 2 names changed. I like the new colloring of the first few albums though.

reply

From what I've seen on the set, this will be a VERY expensive comedy. It's funny that you mentioned Gladiator because the armors of the roman soldiers are the same in both movies. And they're very heavy, believe me...

Well the movies never really captured the comic book spirit in my opinion, the comic books are so much fun to read.I did like the feature lenght films that were made in the 80s like "the 12 task of Asterix"thoses were great.
Well maybe this one might improve on the two others,we never know.

reply

Les douze Travaux d'Asterix was made in 1976 ;)

But you're right, the cartoons, and especially that one, are pretty good!

Liked Asterix et les Vikings too!

The comics are great, absolutely love them (i grew up with the german versions). Unfortunately, this film totally sucks. I saw it at a press screening and it's absolutely ridiculous. They strayed too far away from the comic, with an unnecessary love plot line and the whole Cesar/Brutus thing. The jokes are childish, Asterix and Obelix don't get enough screen time and there are too many pushy cameos by various sport stars. Benoît Poelvoorde is quite funny though and he actually manages to act amidst all the spectacle
