Currently they are looking for a substitute.

Maybe this Dany Boon frood. What does he look like?

He's a well known French stand-up comedian, rather small with kind of big ears. Could be him the new Asterix, altough a have not heard any confirmation.

Two names are spreading these pasts few months as to who will at last replace the awful Christian Clavier, and the two names are far better choices than Clavier : José Garcia and Clovis Cornillac.

Apparently, in "Mission Cléopatre", he got very cross that his character was not center stage, and that, as an actor, he was SEVERELY upstaged by then rising star Jamel Debouze.
Depardieu, a close friend to Jamel, had no such problems...

But unfortunately he is not too good in this role. Also when they are standing together he seems to be the same height as Depardieu which should not be the case with Asterix and Obelix.
