The viewers reviews in France are awful

Just went on Allo ciné, the french "equivalent" of IMDB, and it's bad, oh so bad.
Guess i won't go see it then.

You really won't miss anything. But if you watch the movie you'll miss those two hours from your life.

reply

Ok then i won't.
Thanks for the tip

I saw it today in Germany.

And yes, it's awful! You can't even call that 'thing' a movie. The screenplay is as bad as it can get. The directing, the editing - everything is as bad as it can get.
I don't blame the actors. But Frédéric Forestier and Thomas Langmann are blamed for this mess. Who let them direct this movie??? Are they even directors? I don't think they know anything about making movies.

I did't really like the first one, but I loved "Mission Cleopatra". But I really HATE this third movie.
Why didn't Alain Chabat (director of the 2nd movie) came back and did this? He knows how to get the right timing, the athmosphere etc.

This movie is just boring.
I even thought, that german actor Michael Herbig's part was the best. The rest was just plain stupid.

If they ever do another live-action Asterix-movie: please, hire a real director, who knows what he's doing, because Forestier and Langmann did not.

Vive la France !!!
I trusted on you, people of French, that being faithfull to Goscinny and Uderzo spirit, you were not going to applause such a mistreating of "our" wonderful "petit Gauloise".
I'm terribly sorry for it was also about Greece, my homeland , and have result a totally mess, yet i'm expecting a new Asterix movie much better, soon.

It's not as bad as they'd have you think, actually. Cinematic greatness it ain't, but it's far from being a disaster.

reply

But then again: who would be looking for cinematic greatness in Astérix? And more importantly: why?

It's just plain, silly, random fun. But it is fun, especially for kids.

reply

No, people are looking for good jokes, a sympathetic Asterix, good comic timing and a storyline that makes sense. But these are unfortunately largely missing from the movie.

reply

What people? I had to take 4 kids to the movies. The percentage of adults in the theatre was accordingly: we were outmatched 4/5:1. The age of the targeted audience (for both the movie and the comics, btw) is somewhere between 5 and 12 years old. They all seemed rather pleased with the result.

It's Asterix, not A Midsummernight's Dream, for crying out loud!

reply

roman8: that's why I gave this movie 4/10 instead of less. As I wrote it in my short review on imdb, this one might be enjoyed only by children. The jokes are terribly childish (and badly timed) while you can enjoy the jokes of the comic books as an adult too.
And while children do enjoy crappy movies as they are not bothered by problems like bad acting or a story that really does not make sense (again, it does make sense in the comics) it does not mean that the movie is good at all.

Good comic timing! That's it.

This movie had no timing, no atmosphere - and is just "unsympathetic", if you can call a movie that way.
The screenplay, the direction and the editing were just *beep*

thank you guys for your posts, I will not go see it then. Well, I had a bad feeling as soon as Clovis was mentioned...

I go pop the DVD of "Mission Cléopatre" in then
