The opening sequence

One of the most intense adrenalized gut-wrenching openings to a horror flick in the history of cinema.

Anyone know of other *horror* films that can rival this opening?

i loved this opening.. look at Ghost ship. that was intense too.

reply

I agree, super visceral opening.

reply

The only good part of ghost ship, unfortunately, but it is super badass.

reply

Totally agree ! first time i saw this opening i thought oh wow this is gonna be some film cos the opening scene is amazing !

Pity the rest of the film was a complete letdown :(

But wow the opening scenes !

reply

I dont think the film was a complete letdown, but it certainly could have carried that opening energy better. And definitely not as unique as 28 days, but still pretty cool. A decent flick with a few awesome sequences.

The opening sequence in Final Destination 2 is very intense. I never tire of watching it.

reply

Yep, that's a good one.

reply

Once it breaks free, the opening of Dusk till Dawn is very intense.

reply

I remember the first time I saw From Dusk till dawn, not really knowing what to expect, and that opening totally caught me off guard. Definitely one one of my favorite openings (and it's such a whacky awesome horror flick in general, such fun).

reply

I never really know if calling it a horror flick is accurate. It's almost an action movie that happens to feature brutal vampires. It's an odd case of a movie not necessarily being great, but is intensely entertaining regardless. I've watched it countless times.

reply

Yeah, it's not really a horror flick, I just say that because of the vampires. I've always thought of it as a half n half type deal. The first part is a crime thriller, the second part is campy horror. And altogether...I guess it's a film of blended genres, or something like that.

reply

the opening scene was the gas station? I just watched it and it wasn't very intense to me. am I missing something?

reply

The pre-credits sequence in the remake of Dawn of the Dead was good.

reply

I agree. There's something pretty intense about that scene. Especially when you see the infected running after the dad in a large group in that field.

reply

Everything escalates so quickly—absolutely terrifying situation to imagine oneself in.

reply

one of my favorites but the song choice helps it 1000% on top of it being a great scene

reply

Yeah the music works perfectly—damn near perfect, at least—in both films

reply

Yes it’s a very good opening but I would say the opening to Saving Private Ryan is just as good and just as intense. The rest of that film never lives up to the opening.

reply

I agree, but would you consider SPR a ‘horror’ flick? I guess in a way it is...

reply

No definitely not. It only shows one kind of horror, that of war.
