Russell Howard ruining it as usual!

What's worse is, he's getting more and more involved, consequently making it less funny.

I still can't work out how someone with such childish attempts at humour can make themselves a permanent member of a prime time comedy show like this. He's just too out of his depth compared to the other panelists. I barely see them laughing at him either, only ever out of sympathy.

His act still remains the same I see i.e. shouting at the top of his voice, putting on silly faces and accents, and using random words to describe things....what was it he said when referring to 'boobs' again? Wasn't funny whatever it was.

The guy belongs in a school playground making 10yr olds laugh perhaps, but not on Mock The Week.

reply

My thoughts exactly. I just cannot understand the appeal.

reply

he just has a diiferent style of comedy to everyone else on the panel. viewers at home all have different types of comedy the show accomodates to that, if they were all frankie boyles or andy parsons it would become repetitive, i personally love russell howard and have been to see him live and i and all the people that were there were laughing

reply

You can certainly say different style. Like "say anything irrelevent and small minded" style of humour. Requires no talent or thought. Yes courage, and spirit, but not talent or thought.

reply

Another thing I dislike about Howard is his delivery. He always seems to precede every joke with the line "....how fantastic/amazing/bizarre/weird is that?". It may as well be a catchphrase.

And to teeveeaddict, are you a female per chance? It's just that I find he appeals most to young girls for some reason.

reply

yes i am a woman and fit perfectly into the group of ppl that are attracted to russell howard however, i am not a 12 year old girl who would only like a comedian just because he is "hot". i happen to really like his type of comedy and the others in the panel i think his stories are hilarious and although i love frankie boyle i did find him to be repetitive whereas russell i did not also found that some of russells comments created funny banter between the others

reply

Ah just as I suspected, there had to be an element of fancying him in the overall appeal, hence why mostly women like him and not men. Perhaps that's why they keep him on the show then.

However repetitive Frankie Boyle is he's still always going to be more consistently funny than Howard imo.

reply

there is nothing to do with finding him attractive, would u say the same just because i was defending another comedian? or are u saying this because u are trying to find some sort of excuse for putting more dislike on howard? what if the tables were turned? are u defending frankie boyle for the reasons u are accusing me of?

Lmao! Oh, very nice comeback, teeveeaddict. I'm not a fan of Russell but that was very well done.

Jimothy, why are you so bothered why someone likes Russell? It's probably because they think he's funny, rather than any attraction. It's not like there's an ulterior motive.

reply

haha thanks lol i know maaaaaybe jimothy is just a tad jealous? hes obviously funny enough or he wouldnt b on the show and frankie boyle isnt getting any less air time because of him so i dont get why they are so bothered!

reply

People who perform bad can get jobs and keep jobs very often. The fact that he is on there doesn't say much except a few people probably want to see him.

In my view, he is bringing the show down and wasting space for someone who could be genuinely funny without sounding like a trailer for a 1980's sci-fi horror movie when the topic is politics.

reply

Exactly. The show was always a lot better when Rory Bremner was the regular panelist.

I'm just putting my theory to the test that it's mainly girls/women that like him so don't take it personally. I'm not saying that he appeals most to you because he is attractive or anything, I'm sure part of you does find him funny. It does kind of make me wonder just how much you'd like him as a comedian if he was unattractive to you though.

I'm defending Frankie Boyle because he's a lot funnier than Russell Howard. He's let's say funny 85% of the time whereas Howard is funny about 5% of the time.

reply

I think that they whole point of these shows is to put a lot of different talenontothe show - for example they all have different sort of comedy styles

if they all had the same then it would be very limited - as much as i like frankie boyle i do find some of his stuff quite crude so i am glad that not everyone one the show has the same humour as him

i do like russell howard, and yes i do admit to fancying him - but that is not the reason i like his humour, i would find it funny whether he was ugly as s h ite

anyway i think that andy parsons is the worst one there - i have yet to find ANY of his stuff funny and i have been watching the show since it started.

And to be fair i think that Hugh is a bit limited because i think that all he can do is silly voices

but nonetheless all together they are quite funny because all of their different humour sort of bounces off one another if you know what i mean. The only one i do not have any complaints about is Dara, because to be fair he doesnt actually have to say much.

btw i do actually like the show - i do think that they are good at what they do, such as Hugh with the voices, frankies crude jokes, and russells humour.

I havn't got a naughty bone in my body....except for the one that was in my boyfriend last night!

Noticed how Russell has joked about religion for two weeks in a row? Wouldn't be going for targets that get guaranteed cheers, would he? Surely not! A comedian wouldn't be so unprofessional . . .

What I like about Russell is that he often works in some sci-fi/fantasy jokes which speaks to me as a fellow fan, and he's close to my age so his comedy is based on a lot of thing that interest me. Also his energy and enthusiasm is a nice counterbalance to Frankie and Hugh's styles. He's not the funniest panellist, but he can be one of the more random ones which can be a relief after Hugh's 300th Jimmy Saville/specsavers/insurance joke.

reply

I like both Frankie and Russell.
Yeah, Frankie is funnier, and has a completely different style to Russell's humour but I think it makes a good balance.
Andy Parsons is awful though.

reply

that's not a very fair argument though, as the comedians have no input as to what does or doesn't go into the show, i myself have been in the audience, and it took around 4 hours of filming. they do just joke and joke and the producers and editors do the rest...

and i am a fan Russell, and yes I'm female but that's irrelevant really. as i am huge fans of the others male or female infact the only comedian i really cant get round to liking is Michale mcintyre

Billy Boyd said i was sweet, and Billy's word = the law

reply

He gets some laughs out of me, but I agree on the whole with what you're saying.

reply

I really can't stand him. I've never found him funny, but up to now I've gone along with him and put up with it, but this series he's really beginning to test my patience. He's just irritating, whether it's his stupid giggling and gasping noises while other people are talking, or the way he stares directly at the camera whilst speaking. You can just see how desperate he is to be funny. Dara, Frankie, Hugh etc, all tell jokes and you can see their confidence - they look like they are sat talking in their front room and don't even care if people laugh or not, that nonchalance adds to how funny they are, but Russell talks and then there's a small silence and he looks hopefully around the room smiling, and it's so awkward.

His jokes ALL involve shouting at the very top of his voice, a stupid accent, involving himself in a joke Frankie has already made, being childish, making noises or maiming a small animal. Guaranteed - just watch him.

I think Russell Howard is a fantastic comedian. I find his comedy brilliant, clever and he always leaves me laughing. Yes, I may be a girl and may find him attractive, but that is not the reason why I think that he is an amazing comedian.
I went to see him in concert and did not stop laughing for the whole time I was there, nor did the entire audience.

Personally, I think that the combination of Dara, Russell, Andy, Hugh and Frankie is an amazing one.

I can't see why people are so hard on him.

reply

He's tolerable and can sometimes make a funny, he was on edinborough and brought out his friend Russell K, he's like an even sh!tter version of Howard.

reply

I prefer Howard to Boyle by miles. Boyle seems to recycle his jokes from his live show, and whilst Howard does this occasionally, it's far less often.

I'm sorry to say but that comment left me laughing. He honestly gives me hope that I, and for that matter most people could write comedy on TV and be successful. His humour is just so basic. And why must he constantly shout in most of routines? It doesn't make it any more funny.

His attractiveness aside, why then do mainly women find him so hilarious? The most you get out of males is that he's 'sometimes funny'. Never met a guy who has thought he's brilliant before.

reply

Don't project your feelings onto others you don't really now, the rest of the panel barely laugh at each others jokes unless they're absolutely brilliant. Otherwise they barely crack a smile. I have seen them laugh at his jokes.

Also, if you looked past his delivery once in a while, you might find his comedy is actually quite clever. I personally like his optimism and it balances out some of the other guy's cynicism.

reply

So I must ask, are you a female that fancies him?

reply

No, you can't seem to understand that some people just like him for his comedy.

reply

Russel Howard is brilliant! Would you rather just listen to Boyle talk about how everyone's face looks like scrotuims with sad faces and randomly toss in a few *beep* and *beep* to get you your giggles.

When Boyle says he's gonna go after next year, I will rejoice cos it'll be Russels time to shine.

reply

When Frankie leaves this show MOTW will decline. Frankie is the star of the show hands down. And all the panel know it!

Russell is a ok comedian but his humor is very childish. Like he will say something stupid like "I pushed a wotsit up my brothers aS$, and the butt fairy came and said meow!" thats not funny.

reply

He's never said anything like that, your just blowing things out of proportion, like if I said Frankie Boyle goes: *beep*-edy *beep* *beep*, you know Gordon Browns face looks like a scrotum with a sad face drawn on, I'd still *beep* him but my cock would probably go moldy and drop of from the *beep* and depression.

reply

They're all great but have their weak moments.

For Russell this in this series, it was the things you won't hear on a home/real estate show.

The others were really funny, but Russell kept making obscure celebrity references. In fairness Andy Parsons made a celebrity reference with "In homes under the hammer, we hit Eamon Holmes with a hammer" but I thought that was funnier than Russell's stuff.

Also when he says "wouldn't it be great..." It can be funny but a bit of a cop out, joke wise.

I still liked most of his stuff throughout the series.

reply

i like him, & i dislike how jimothy cant understand that people may like him for reasons other than his attractiveness!!
