Why Don't They Ever Air Any Old/New Episodes?

I am so sick of "Football Wives" and "Rapper Wives" and "Hip Hop Wives" and (God forbid) "The Kardashians" - they have created dozens of THS episodes, why are we always subjected to the same old ones? I'd love to see them re-air "The Golden Girls" or "Roseanne" or "Melrose Place" or anything that would keep us from getting the same old ones a hundred times.

Or better yet - bring out new and interesting stories. I'd love to see one on Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, but I'd take anything that's new and interesting.

Because E! just like a lot of cable channels (Disney and Nickelodeon come to mind) don't feel people care about the old episodes because they are in fact "old" so they pretend like they never existed unless someone dies or it's an anniversary of something (they usually play the 2 Elvis Presley ones on the anniversary of his death and his birthday in January, but usually at like 6 in the morning). It's sad, there are plenty that are great and others that I'd love to see (The Monkees, Jim Varney, etc.) but I doubt we'll ever see them again.

Another reason why they may not play older episodes is because the stars or topics that they highlight continue on with their existence in the entertainment industry after the shows airs. They can quickly become out of date. In 5 years, a star can be married and divorced a few time, have a couple of kids, make several movies, or go through rehab a time or two. Keeping up with the latest gossip about a star would require a lot of updating and re-editing old shows to reflect all the new stuff that has happened since originally airing. I can imagine that would take a lot of time, energy, and money on the network's part.

Example: showing an Angelina Jolie show from 5 or 6 years ago would totally miss the whole Brad Pitt-gazillion children-world ambassador things that has happened since then.

So they keep repeating new shows like Basketball Wifes and Kardasians because they are relevant right now in people's minds, and don't need a whole lot of tweaking.

But I do think they should replay older episodes that are never going to go out-of-date, such as celebrities that have long passed away or legendary TV shows.

That's no excuse to not show the NUMEROUS episodes of actors who are dead and were dead when they made the episodes (ex: Natalie Wood, Bewitched, etc.) there are plenty of episodes that can still be aired. And they have shown older episodes where they have updated them in last 5 minutes. They just show episodes of people who are still in their "prime" (if you will) because they feel that the people who watch the show now only care about the present as opposed to the past. Which is unfortunate because they had tons of great episodes that we'll probably never see again.

I completely agree. It's complete bull what they're doing now. Every time I see "E! True Hollywood Story" on my guide, I always check the description out of habit. But I never watch because it's always the same ridiculous stuff about the Kardashians, Rapper Wives, Hulk Hogan, etc.

When I was growing up I use to watch the show all the time, and I loved it. Some of my favorites were for The Little Rascals, Fatty Arbuckle, and -- as someone mentioned earlier -- Jim Varney. I barely knew who many of the people they spoke of even were back then, but their story's were so interesting that I still loved the shows and was completely engrossed by them. It made me interested in the history of popular culture and, in turn, more interested in the art and artists that were involved in it.

It really disgusts me to the point where I feel almost angry when thinking about it when I see now how they sell out just because they don't respect their audiences enough to think they'll not watch something that's not about reality stars -- or just want to kill two birds with one stone by telling the story's about people on their own network. If they don't believe the younger generation is interested in such things, then they have themselves to blame for not exposing them to such things.

*sigh* it use to be so great.

... and don't even get me started on what's become of Nick At Night lol.

Yep, it angers me too. They have like 500 episodes and only show about 7 of them and they're all from the past 2 years, 5 at most. I remember loving E! when I was in high school and learning about all kinds of people I didn't know. I forgot about the Fatty Arbuckle one, really good. Another great show was called "Mysteries and Scandals" that was hosted by A.J. Benza it was great. I remember them doing a show about the Little Rascals also that went into their deaths and stuff a little more, I think there might have been a Fatty Arbuckle show too. It was a really good show too.

I wish they would show Rod Stewart & Kimberly Stewart's E! True Hollywood story. I have it on VHS and want to have it on DVD! I wish they would stop showing the same ones over and over and show the older ones again!!!

I'm with you, Nevets_gm! I kinda grew up with this show too, and hate what's become of it! Everything you said...I'm right there with ya. Sad, cause it used to be so good!

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

I've been waiting years, and i mean YEARS for them to show the Britney Spears episode. Maybe they showed it once and I missed it. Either way I'm so sick of those boring ones they always show. hey have soooo many episodes to choose from.

You're gonna see me in your dreams tonight. My face is gonna haunt you all the time.

Are you kidding? Britney Spears is one of the ones they aired the most. Especially around the time of her 'breakdown'. In fact, they even had a two hour profile that covered much of the same material as her True Hollywood Story around that time.

I do agree though, this used to be a show that covered EVERYONE and not just flavor of the moment personalities, they even covered television shows that I'd otherwise never watch. Damn shame what the E! channel has become in recent years.

With Halloween coming up soon I was hoping they would show some of the episodes about horror films especially the Poltergeist one because of how eerie the events around the series were but they're showing a bunch on other things this weekend and next week. Bummer

reply

I was hoping that thwy would do the same thing too. Why don't they listen to what the people would like to see? I have been trying to find the curse episodes and the twilight zone one forever. They are not for sale that I can find, so people have to go underground to see them. E then gets mad and has the files removed, so you can't see them! They are really forcing people to trade files like this.

I too wish they would bring this show back. Unfortunately, the reason they don't has much to do with the dumbing down of America. I guess they figure that E's current audience is not sophisticated enough to enjoy a documentary on shows and movies that are decades old and personalities who are long dead. Hopefully E will someday create a sister channel for a more sophisticated audience.
