Week 9 - Dancer Picks 2017

When the skirt on Drew is shorter than the skirt on Emma, who has the best legs on DWTS, something is definitely wrong! ;) More seriously, he used his enthusiasm for the theme of the dance to talk Emma out of some of its important elements. But I suppose they will get away with it.

Beautiful dance from Victoria and Val. Probably would have reached 10 had it just included more content.

Jordan continues to be the gold standard this season, and probably the past few seasons. Of course this means he gets held to a higher standard than others. Is Carrie Ann a judge or a coach? Sometimes the comments she makes mean it's really hard to tell.

Watching Lindsey and Mark it occurred to me that all their dances are so "Markian", so stamped with his very personal style. There used to be a partner swap night, but I don't think they have done that this season. I would like see how Lindsey would dance with someone else at least once.

Did Frankie have a routine? Witney's costume was so distracting I must have missed it.;) Seriously, not sure hip hop was a good choice for him. I mean he tried and all, but not sure it was really convincing. Well, we can hope for better in the upcoming paso.

Really tough to say at this point who's going home. Lindey? Maybe?

Pretty scared for Emma on their second dance, but all turned out okay, fortunately. Entertaining routine, though I didn't care for artificial tap dancing sound effects. Not sure re-runs are such a great idea either. They must be really tired at this show, giving further fuel to my thought that this may be the last year.

Val didn't reach Derek's level in his dance, I thought. Not sure why. Maybe there are too many Derekisms in it that Val doesn't feel simpatico with.

Even though Lindsey and Mark did Maks and Meryl's tango, it still felt like a
Markian dance to me.

Frankie's introductory video was really helpful to him because in it they went over all the challenges they faced. Then as you watched the dance you were checking to see if they pulled them all off. Because of this, if there were any other problems -- like gumby shoulders -- you didn't notice them.

Oops! Lindsey is the first one ruled in. I guess that means Victoria is out. I
think Val knows it. Just look at this expression during the long wait to find out.

Ok, finally got through it. Only took about five hours.

Drew/Emma: I was happy to see a Scottish theme, and loved Emma's plaid dress (for me, lol), but the dance didn't work out too well, did it.

Victoria/Val: Yes, that was a lovely performance. But, you're right about the content.

Jordan/Lindsay: Agree with your comments. Jordan is good.

Lindsey/Mark: Yeah, I know what you mean about the dances being "Markian". I think it would have been good to see her with a different partner for the whole season. And I usually enjoy Mark's creativity.

Frankie/Witney: Lol re your comment on Witney. But, yeah, that performance won't be in the highlights.

Drew/Emma: Bad idea for the dupe dances. The dance would have been better if the "star" matched the routine. It just wasn't right for Drew. They should do their own thing. And don't say this is the last season. I'm not ready, lol.

Victoria/Val: Cute performance, but the song/music ruined it for me. If they hadn't compared it to Derek's, I might have enjoyed it more.

Jordan/Lindsay: Quite a performance. I don't know why I don't connect with him. He's like a pro, with not much else going on. He certainly seems like a decent guy, though. Meryl seemed like a pro, too, but she had that something "extra".

Lindsey/Mark: Eh. Can't compare to Maks and Meryl.

Frankie/Witney: Yeah, you're right about the intro. That's all I was focused on, lol.

Val/Victoria seemed to know they were leaving and Witney/Frankie seemed to know they were staying.
All things being equal, I think it should end up:
1. Jordan
2. Lindsey
3. Frankie
4. Drew
But I don't know where the fans will land.

Good point about matching the rerun routines to the stars.

Yeah, I hope it's not the last year either. Just noticing some possible signs.

Good point about Jordan. Somehow he hasn't made his human presence felt or he's been lost in the shuffle with so many others.

Have you noticed how much louder and sustained the applause is for Frankie? If he dances well enough, I think he's the favorite, Drew second.

Great reading your thoughts as always. Wonder if the finale will be held over two nights or just one.

reply

I enjoy reading your thoughts, as well. You're much more articulate than I.

Looks like the show will be on Monday and Tuesday.

I don't think I have noticed the applause for Frankie. I do remember seeing his facial expression of "Success!". The positive applause probably had to do with that. I always feel guilty rooting for someone who isn't the best dancer, but Frankie's enthusiasm won me over.

reply

Thanks! That's great news. Though I'll be on my way to Thanksgiving already and probably have to catch it later.

You probably don't need to feel too guilty. Some contestants have too much dance experience. Plus the show has deliberately made audience appeal a major part of it.

reply

Yeah, I guess you're right.

Not sure when I'll see the finale, either. It's going to be a busy week. I'll watch it some early morning I can't sleep.

Anyway, have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
