Week 10 - Finals

The judges seem to want Normani to win.

The show seems to want Rashad to win, and he is surging now.

The viewers seem to want David to win.

What will happen? It's been a weird season. Normally Rashad would win, but having the worst dancer win it all would be the natural capstone based on the way things have gone so far.

Meanwhile I feel sorry for the judges, trying to find something good to say about the baseball player and not go too much against public, even though they must feel otherwise.

reply

Yeah, it was kind of weird. Normani coming 3rd was a surprise. I'm glad Rashad won, as opposed to Baseball. Rashad was fun to watch, but he didn't really improve through the season. But, whatever, it's over now. The finale is always entertaining, though, with the extra dances, music, and bloopers, so I'm glad I watched it.

reply

Was it just me or did they shorten the cameos of past contestants more than usual? Seemed like it anyway.

To m,e Rashad's footwork did improve, even though he never reached perfection in all aspects.

One thing that made me happy is that Emma is my favorite pro and after getting paired with so many losers (aka old guys) in the past she finally won. Well deserved!

I guess they resume again in the fall. Really wondering how deep in the barrel they'll have to go to find the next batch of contestants. The time is coming when they'll announce a line-up and I won't recognize a single name.

reply

The time for past contestants did seem short, now that you mention it.
You're probably right about Rashad. Footwork isn't my thing. I just remember being really impressed by him on the first show, and expected to be "wowed" at some point during the season. But wasn't. But, yeah, it was good Emma won!
Lol, yeah, we'll see who they can get. I didn't know any of the final three for this season, and probably won't remember their names a week from now.

reply

It doesn't help that often the camera focuses on things other than the feet so that they are hard to follow.

I wonder if Tom Bergeron himself will ever get into dancing shoes. Could be amusing.

Oh well, I guess there are 2 more Olympic gymnasts and 4 more members of Fifth Harmony. ;)

reply

lol ; )

reply

:)

Is there anyone you would really like to see try the show?

I can't think of only a few, but probably for various reasons none would do it:
-George Takei
-Tiffani Thiessen
-Valerie Bertinelli

and a bunch of A-listers who would never do it.

reply

Oh, I don't know! All I can think of are A-listers. Your list is good. Takei would be a hoot.
Ok, I don't know if any of these actors have been on DWTS, but I looked up old shows and came up with:

Lisa Whelchel
Melissa Sue Anderson
Dean Butler
matthew laborteaux
Justine Bateman
Shelley Long
John Ratzenberger

reply

Hey, nice list! I believe Ratzenberger was on, early on -- in fact the first season I tuned in. Paired with Edyta, who used to wear the most shocking costumes. Wasn't very good and left quite early.

I wonder if anyone from Scrubs or Gilmore girls would do it. Wonder what Lindsay Wagner is doing these days.

reply

Looked up Ratzenberger's dancing on youtube. I can see why he left early. At least he tried, lol.
Anyone from the cast from Scrubs would be fun. I never watched Gilmore Girls, though. I don't know about Lindsay Wagner. She might be too quietly holistic for Dancing with the Stars. ; )

reply

Right! :) He was extremely complimentary to Edyta at least, which was very nice to see. Which season did you start watching?

I'd like to see Scott Paterson from GG come on, as the second former baseball player. ;)

You're probably right about Ms. Wagner. Wouldn't be into it. :)

Maybe they should have someone from The Love Boat as that show was pretty much the equivalent of DWTS back in the day: the place where older stars with faltering careers would go to try to rejuvenate things.

reply

Lol, regarding The Love Boat. But it's true, lol.
I'm not sure which season I started watching. I would check in to see if anything entertaining was going on, then move on to something else. I think the first year I watched consistently was with Meryl Davis. Even though she was basically a pro, she was like magic the way she floated around on the dance floor.
I didn't recognize the name Scott Patterson, so I looked him up. He's a home run! ; )

reply

Ah yes, the year Maks finally had a chance to win! :) She had a high degree of emotional intelligence that helped her deal with him as well. ;)

reply

Right. Maks. What a guy.

reply

Ever see his Paso with Mel B.? She really put him in his place on that one, complete with whip. Best dance ever! ;)

reply

Just watched it on youtube. That was fantastic!

reply

Yes! I still like watching it every now and then.
Other than that, some of the best choreography has come from Derek, I think, when he had someone who can dance well. Though TMZ has said that Derek and Cheryl used to use professional choreographers to help them.

reply

Oh, I wasn't aware of that. Can they all use pros? Or is that "cheating"? I missed both Derek and Mark this season, though. They both brought that something "extra", even though they have different styles.

reply

I think it's not defined, but I think ethically that if they do use a choreographer, they ought to credit their work.

Yes, they are missed! Unfortunately Derek's attitude was so bad last time (with Marilu Henner) that he was getting unappealing to watch.

reply

Ah, ok. And I had forgotten about Derek's attitude last time. That was pathetic.

reply

Yeah, seemed like he was spoiled with high performing celebrities for too long. But I do greatly miss a lot of the routines he created.
