Ryan: "I'm so happy for myself"

Gosh, he is so conceited.

Aside from that, he's just so boring. In spite of all the pre-show publicity about him being on this season, to me he's kind of forgettable. His personality and dances just don't stand out to me.

I agree with this. He's the most boring contestant by far to me. I will say his dance was definitely his best tonight though. But he's still not as good as Calvin or James. I honestly would have expected Calvin to be more stiff with his big frame than Ryan. Ryan does have potential to improve but I really just don't care about watching him advance much further especially if he outlasted some better contestants.

I think (and could be wrong here) that he is so boring because he is afraid to let any personality come out for fear that it might get edited to make him look bad. Unfortunately, he comes across boring and isn't helping his image at all (which is why he came on the show, I'm sure). he's not really making things worse, but certainly not endearing himself to America.

I think he is too scared to say anything. I think he's aware of his screw up and wants a chance to change his image. I think probably because of the protesting and now the comments he is really holding back on his personality. He's coming across as dull because of it. I actually like him a little better now. I expected him to be loud and obnoxious, and he doesn't seem that way. He's definitely not a rocket scientist, but i kind of feel bad for him.

Why is that conceited? Didn't all the contestants come on the show to get as far as they could and not get eliminated? What do you think the rest of them mean when they say I was so happy I wasn't eliminated? Who do you think they are happy for? His phrasing was bad but he didn't say anything conceited.

Ryan is clearly uncomfortable and out of his element. Whether that is because he is trying to restrain himself due to Rio or just because he is so uncomfortable I don't know but watching him in these interviews he is clearly not the same Ryan you see at swim meets. He's generally much more relaxed and easy going. But, other than the race car driver, he is the one person not used to having to perform in this way. The actors, singers, Laurie, they all are used to performing in front of people. Ryan has never had to do that, he gets in a pool and goes as fast as he can for 5 minutes max depending on the event.
