"what a homo"

This line surprised me; it seemed like something from a less enlightened time, especially coming from someone who was supposedly a pretty educated, modern person. I wonder if they would put a line like that in a movie today (2015). I hope not. And it came up twice. The first time, Carl was putting Dupree down to his wife, and the second time he looked guilty when he said, "why didn't you tell me you wrote poetry?" and Dupree says, "I thought you might call me a homo."

Oh shut up you snowflake. It's a movie about people, and guess what? People still talk like that in 2020, they just don't say it in front of a camera.
