No, the asterisk was not part of the actual lettering in the movie although I'm using it anyway here in a direct quote for common decency. I don't want this reply to possibly be deleted.
There was one clip that showed the lettering in stark reality on a slow pan downward. No genitalia was shown, although the pan downward did stop at Jarrod's bellybutton. No dialog was heard either.
I think the reason that it was removed from the released version, even the NC-17 edition, was because it showed Jarrod struggling during the slow pan, and once the camera arrived at the clip's terminus, showed what appeared to be his ejaculate on his abdomen.
Somebody might've thought it was too much for an audience to handle.

Well, this is funny. I previewed what I had written and thought it would get through to get posted, but even the second and third word which you see was censored out. What it said after I posted it literally was *BEEP* *BEEP*.
I didn't think the second word would have been censored, but the third word I could see would have a likely chance it would be censored.
So you can get an understanding, the second word rhymes with HUNT and the third word rhymes with DUCK except that it's a six-letter word referring to the person who does it, not the object itself.
