Questions (Spoiler)

Yes the movie was good, liked the detective and would like more to see of him and this time period.

But after the movie was over i got some questions:

So his father was the judge who killed (ordered) the family?
His son witnessed it but couldn't remember and the killer made it so that he would come to the island 7 years later to repay his sins?

So it all happend because the killer wanted revenge?
But after the mill fight, why does it rain blood and why does the people go one sucicide run? They slit themselves in the gut, went totally insane.

Was it to hint that there is maybe more to it? a real ghost?
I noticed that they always talked about the smelly water,
and the oracle told the detective what it is when water smells different.

My guess is that the bodies of the kang family wheren't properly buried
and they reached the groundwater and poisoned it.
So after a while everybody goes crazy from drinking it.

And the detective just returns home and reports what?
Accuse his father, or just tells that the new mill owner was the killer?

I agree that the film was excellent.
Cha Seung-won is a charismatic actor but unfortunately this film under-performed in its initial release so there won't be more of it.
Perhaps it was because the plot needed people's concentration, the film had zero humor (Korean audiences love comedic elements even in serious films no matter how cheap the laughter is), and it is very violent with downbeat ending.

1. The son just came by coincidence I think.
Karma is an important element in eastern philosophy.

2. Killer did want revenge but he did have very good reasons for wanting it.

Blood rain was a supernatural occurance.
It just happens for the sake of climatic insanity.
People went crazy because they thought the executed person's spirit has come to punish them and they were afraid of it.
Heck maybe they're right and it was the spirits that came back to haunt the island.

3. I think there definitely was supernatural element to the story.
It depends on the viewer's perspective. Spoiled water can be explained but isn't because in the world where the film's taking place, maybe "Ghost" is the only explanation.

4. What the detective will do next is up to viewer's interpretation as well.
But seeing as how he threw away the piece of clothe into the sea at the end, I'm thinking he'll end up protecting his father's honor.

Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down and a Wagging Finger of Shame
