Is the real New York full of one way streets

No, that's how a lot of the city streets work. It may be one of the many reasons why many true NYer's prefer walking over driving. Anyone relatively close to the city knows its better to take the ferry/bus/train in and walk then drive in. Traffic is horrendous.
