Your only chance of seeing 'Song of Songs' will surely be at a film festival. It has been shown at the Edinburgh Film Festival, and never got a distribution deal. I saw it at the London Film Festival and now know why it hasn't been picked up. It's more of an experimental art film (the first 30 minutes you get to see the back of the main protagonist's head as the camera follows them around) than one designed for a mass audience, or any audience at all for that matter. The director admitted that fact during the Q & A after the film at the NFT.

I found it incredibly tedious, unintelligible and wanted to leave within 10 minutes of the film starting. In fact I would go as far as saying that it is the worst film I've sat through at the cinema in my life. It was only the fact that I was stuck in the middle of NFT1, which is not easy to get out of without disrupting everyone, that I stayed. If I'd been on the end of the row, I would have left. I stayed for the Q & A afterwards and nearly missed my last train home, just to see what the film makers would say in response to a largely unappreciative audience. I wasn't the only one who was sighing; looking at my watch every few minutes etc believe me.

I loved Nathalie in 'My Summer of Love', which is why I went to see this film and hoped she would be at the London Film Festival screening but unfortunately she was filming in Scotland.

Actually I just read that it is getting a limited release in the UK this month (February). Needless to say I won't be going to see it again myself.
