Hank Scorpio

Dude totally needed to be the bad guy in the movie. I really did like this movie but the dome was a dumb idea to say the least.

I would have preferred Sideshow Bob myself but hey, at least they used the same guy who did the voice of Hank Scorpio for Russ Cargill, so you half got what you wanted. It would seem the originally, Hank Scorpio was supposed to be the film's villain but for unknown reasons it was changed.

I think the reason they didn't do it (same with Sideshow Bob) is because Hank is such a fan favorite that they'd be enraged if the movie didn't do him justice.

I don't see why Hank Scorpio would be the villain anyway. Sure he was essentially a spoof of Bond villains, but he was also a good guy and good friends with Homer. It would be hard to paint him as a strictly evil character you want to see lose.

I think they decided not use him because he was just too likeable to be the villain outside of some side jokes. I'm glad they didn't, because he's great as a one off character but I feel that his appeal would be drained if he appeared too much. Really though, the villain of the piece should have been Mr Burns, he was the villain of the show from the beginning arguably, and the dome over the town scheme would've fit him like a glove (I imagine he could've been pressured by the government to contain the pollution caused by his plant, and that'd be his twisted solution). I'd also have liked an appearance from sideshow bob, the stakes always seem bigger than usual when he's around, despite him being very comedic. Russ Cargill just seemed really boring to me, he's an obvious expy of Scorpio but it just loses something without the friendly personality and interaction with Homer.

I don't know the answer, but Hank Scorpio was the BEST SIMPSONS CHARACTER EVER!!!!!
