How? Spoilers

Wouldn't it have been tricky to get a false passport, get through customs with it and then be a permanent illegal in Australia? She would have had to change her name again from the false one on the passport because she entered the country on a holiday visa (so eventually deported for over staying). I'm sure it's possible but none-the-less, a logistical nightmare.

The passport wasn't false--it was Laura's, which Miranda found among her stuff that Block dropped off.

There was no reason for the authorities to be suspicious of her. She looked like Laura and Laura had no police record. I suppose a really good computer system would catch the fact that Laura is dead, but I don't know how quickly that kind of info gets into the immigration or Interpol systems.

As for overstaying a tourist visa, changing her name and appearance and disappearing into the crowd, all I can say is: here in New York thousands of people do it every year and often stay for many years without getting caught. Naomi clearly had money--presumably enough to buy longterm forged id documents.

The story isn't all that plausible, but I think this aspect of it is ok.

Exactly.

It was clear as can be she used Laura's passport. It was shown in the box of documents Brendan dropped off---Miranda even picked it up and opened it and looked at the photo.

Also, I originally found Laura's appearance a bit quirky in the show--that hair, those unusual specs she wore.

But then it all made sense when we saw Miranda made up exactly like Laura at Australian immigration, the trendy square specs on her face and the hair, etc.

It was a very specific look--which in retrospect we saw come into play when Miranda made herself up to look like Laura.

I wondered too about the passport being canceled once a death is registered. But just don't know how that works. If the two agencies don't "talk" to each other's computers then................
